Bolt won’t insert into rifle?

These are 2 bolts for Savage 93s.  One will insert into a rifle and one will not.  Previously the other bolt would go into a rifle while the other would not.  Am I missing something obvious here?

One bolt is probably not fully "cocked", tho both look to be cocked in the picture you posted.  Just my guess.  GL

Most obvious thing is the numbers on the bottom of the bolt bodies.  If they are serial numbers match the bolt to the gun .  If they're old enough to not have serial numbers I suppose that irrelevant.  I'm not familiar with these rifles, but it's possible the release button or whatever holds the bolt in the gun doesn't fit to one of the bolts.  One of the bolts looks modified, maybe nothing more than polished up; if the gun looks like that I'd try to get that bolt to fit.  I'd check the point of release next.  Good luck.

I guess there is a good reason you want to swap bolts.

I’m not swapping bolts.  They each go to a savage 93 rifle. Because one wouldn’t insert in either rifle and the other would insert into either rifle.  I just laid them side by side for comparison.

Well that is a very good reason. For 2 rifles you do need 2 bolts. Best of luck and please keep us up to date on the fix.

I am thoroughly confused and maybe it’s a trick of the picture but one bolt looks longer

What exactly do you mean when you say it won’t insert?

The bolt face comes up to the edge of the magazine well and will then not forward any more.

I assume the mag is out of the rifle correct when you try to insert the bolt?  Did you get the mags mixed up?  I know they should be interchangeable, but sometimes those things just don't cooperate like they should.

I did some reading on this and found on Savage shooter forum that the ejectors might need some attention. 2 little black pieces of metal that protrude up and eject the spent case. They ride under the bolt and is to tall will cause this issue. The groves on the bolt that the ejectors rind in are not worn on the bolt that wont fit.

10ring nailed it.  There was a burr in the bolt channel.  The burr easily popped off and everything now running smooth.  Thanks to everyone for suggestions.
