Hoppe's Bore Snake....? How good do they work?

Because they don't even remotely remove the embedded contaminants that proper cleaning does. Boresnakes are terrific, but they're like spraying your car at the coin wash versus properly cleaning it. One gets the chunks and dust off, the other leaves it clean.

Why are they not good for "good cleaning"?

Ill spray mine down first, and it always seems to leave the bore clean and shiny :meh:

Use your boresnake, then clean the weapon properly and see how much fouling you get out of it. Some folks are a lot pickier than others about what "clean" means.

I think a boresnake works just fine. How clean does the bore need to be?

More damage is done to the bore by overcleaning than by undercleaning.

Personally I do not use more than 5 patches on any of my rifles. Wet, dry, wet, dry, dry, and a couple of passes with a bore mop then call it done. And I have not noticed any problems.

Been wanting a boresnake for my .30 cal rifles. Them things are mutliplying while I am not paying attention.

Swear by them. Great for use on all style guns from revolvers to semi-automatics and even long guns. Keeps the barrel spotless with little effort

I prefer a Boresnake for cleaning the bore of a .22 rimfire rifle. I also carry one on hunting trips for my centerfire rifle just in case a field cleaning is needed.
