Primers went through the washing machine

Ok. So, I had a full sleeve of primers in my hunting bag. I thought I had the bag cleaned out all the way, so I tossed it in the washing machine. Well, the primers went everywhere and got soaked. I mean full on wash, soap and all. I managed to collect all of the primers and I'm hoping they can be dried out and still shot. Normally, I'd use them for range ammo or something, the hang up is that these are my only large rifle magnum primers, and I need to develop a hunting load and load up some rounds to hunt with. And, this being 2022 and all, I can't exactly run to the store and buy a sleeve of primers, much less large rifle magnum primers. Anyone have experience drying out wet primers?

I would not even attempt to use them.  It's unfortunate, but much less unfortunate than a hang fire or something like that.  Toss them and consider it a lesson.  I am not necessarily slight risk averse, but when it comes to things like this, it just isn't worth it.

Primers are hard to kill, even intentionally.  I would use them to develop your loads, if one fails to go off, no loss, just pull the bullet and reuse the rest of the components.  Just be sure to let them dry for a few days.

You might test a few by priming some brass and firing with no power or projectile. I agree to give them a few days, plus maybe a few more in a ziplock with a desiccant.

I've seen several discussions on attempts to "kill" a primer, and most, if not all end up with "use a hammer to make 'em go off" if you don't want use 'em.  The various methods I've read about include soaking them in just about any liquid (oil, ATF, water, etc.,) for varying time frames, and they all still went bang.

Get your least favorite hammer and PPE, find some concrete and give it a smack.  Or, prime an empty case and see if the firing pin will set it off, no great loss either way.

Would not consider washed primers to be what I develop a load with,

Have washed more than a few loaded rounds (38 spl).  That's because I sometimes miss the speed strip in my trousers.  They all fired, but those were sealed loaded rounds.

Just take the loss...seriously!

The answer is so simple you guys are over looking it ! They were washed now just put them in the dryer on high for 30 minutes !

Disclaimer: that was a joke.

Of all the crazy stuff I have heard, fabric softener ! You know the chemicals in them will cause the primers to burn hotter. You really need to watch what people say here. Please be careful and limit the dryer on high to 30 minutes.

Disclaimer: I'm being a smart ass, dont try this at home but if you do, video tape it for our entertainment upon your death.
