Scope for 270

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I'm looking for a scope on my new 270 at accurateordnance. Generally, I'm deciding between two scopes. I was considering the Viper HST 4-16x44 in MOA or the Trijicon Credo HX 2.5-15x42. I've been wondering if the Trijicon or something similar is worth the extra cost.
Thoughts?

I have hunted with the venerable 270 for over 50 years. I would recommend a scope with less than 4x as the beginning magnification.  I use 3-9x and many shots are close enough that 4x might be challenging to get quick acquisition.  9x has never failed me for shots over 200 yard shots. At distance, 15x might be useful for creedmore but it may outrun the performance of the 270. If costs is a factor a 3-9 would be cheaper and the money could be used to buy better quality glass, rather than unnecessary magnification. Just my opinion.
