Mystery Guest - Any Ideas What It Is?

Caught this on my trail cam a few days ago. I had it set up under my carport to try and figure out what was making some cone shaped holes in the fine gravel any where from 1-4" in diameter and 1-2" deep, but nothing shows up so I assume it is some insect to small to trigger the camera. Anyway I was giving up and moved the camera back to it's normal place and these was on the card when I swapped it out. Sorry they are not better, camera doesn't do well in infrared. My first thought was a Red Fox that was crossed with something. Red Fox tail, very short or hairless, longer rear legs. Wish it would have been in the daylight to see what color it was and have better resolution.

That is a Eastern Coyote, they're becoming more common here in TN. Trying to dig up a vole. I just had a den of 5 I cleared out last week.

Well, I did a Google search for pictures of a fox and pictures of Megan Fox showed up, then I got lost. What were we looking for?

After looking at 100s of Red Fox pictures online I did find a few that showed the longer rear legs. I don't know about the lack of hair other than the infrared camera may not be showing it correctly. Still a strange looking fox if that is what it is.

The only reasons I stand by what I said, is because my trail cams gave similar stills, same still after an alert at 6am, this is what I got.

When I told a friend about the small cone shaped holes in the gravel he said they were like crop circles only from very small aliens.

The canine is a fox, while the coyote's tail is close, the body isn't.  As to the funnels, probably ant lions by the description.

Yep that's the funnel shaped holes I have. Never saw the ugly bug, not sure I want to. Couldn't imagine a bug being interested in the packed dirty 1a and limestone dust that is the floor of my carport.

As a kids we used to drop ants into the funnels, it was cool watching the ant lion use its pincers to pull the ant under.

Stick a small stick or straw stem into the hole and gently swirl it around in a circle. Without fail, it’ll draw that unsightly beast up to where you can see him.
