Making the checking on grips

Recommended Posts

I am interested in making some grips. I have a full service woodshop, and know my way around it. I am not a big fan of smooth grips, so my question is about the checking on the grips. Is there a non-machined way to do this? I was hoping maybe someone on here had tried this, or at least knew how it might be done with consistent results.

Yes there is a non-machined way to do this.. You will need to order the stuff from Brownells. Hand Checkering is a old art and takes some time and patience. Brownells has everything that you will need to do the job right. Heck, if you get good enough, the possibility to do it as a side job is great.. there is a demand for good grips and for aftermarket checkering of grips to enhance the looks of a firearm.
