I have driven the section between Johnson City and Asheville a couple dozen times and Know it is complete. It is done beyond Asheville? If so How far and how long of a trip from JC to Charleston Sc where it is supposed to end?

6 hours i think???

I lived in summerville SC and my future parents in law live in Gray. It has been a couple years since I drove it. but I think it was around 6 hours but I had two kids in the car on the trip too

MapQuest says:

Total Estimated Time: 5 hours 16 minutes

Total Estimated Distance: 326.12 miles

I've driven that road more times than I can count (OTR truck driver for 14 years).

I26 is complete from Asheville to Charleston...its 267 miles and it will take you about 4 hours or so if you don't hit any rush hour traffic anywhere.

EDIT: Oops ...I thought you meant from Asheville to Charleston...from JC it 325 miles about 5.5 hours.

I haven't been on the new completed road. How long does it take to get to asheville from JC? About an hour?

NC has traditionally been slow on completing the interstate system. They had some of the last portions of I40. They have been working on the section through the Gorge at the state line pretty much since the day it opened.

TN built I-181 some time ago (to the state line I think) where it changed to a US Hwy to Asheville. Once NC built I-26 from Asheville to the state line TN renumbered I-181 to I-26 up to the intersection with I-81.
