Sad to hear.  One of the network channels has a show called Who Do You Believe, and Ms. Nichols was recently featured in a financial dispute between her son and her friend/manager. It was sad to see. She deserved better.

The lady opened many doors for black women in TV and inspired more than one real female astronaut. A fine actress and a great lady. She leaves a true legacy in her wake.

I don't care what color or sex   (or claimed sex)   anyone is.  If a person has talent, and a body of work in art, sports, and all other professions,  they should be honored and saluted for it, period.   That said, Salute to Nichelle!

Great memories of watching Star Trek as a kid...and adult.  She inspired a lot of young women from that generation.

The story of how MLK asked her to not quit when she felt the network wasn't treating her fair is worth looking up.  He made her realize the impact she was having, and the rest is history.
