Well, folks, looks like I'm going to be moving to Atlanta...

Interviewed for a spot down there last week, and just a bit ago got a call back from the company owner with a job offer. I do have a very nebulous potential opportunity up here, but it's so theoretical right now that I have very little inclination to go with it... unless I can get some concrete info on it in the next day or two.

So my feeling is that I'm going to take the offer. Not overly thrilled at the prospect of moving my crap, but it'll be nice to be pulling a regular salary instead of this sporadic contract BS.

Congrats on the job offer, sorry about Atlanta, congrats on the carry laws of Georgia, hope you can get out of the City of Atlanta.

That's one way to get rid of Nafie!!

Based on a little bit of poking at places to live down there, I'm leaning towards living in Decatur or Stone Mountain. In-town living is definitely not for me...

Best of luck to you. It's hard decision sometimes on deciding to move for job.

Sounds like you have thought it out and weighed all your options. Take soem solice in that if nothing else. ;)

Steady is better than sporadic!

I have relocated three times in 20 years, never is easy. Goodbyes are hard to take after a while.

Good luck with the new gig.

I've been job hunting and have looked down there as well. One plus is that the housing market has really taken a wallop there and it's a great time to find a bargain!

Truth be told, I haven't made a whole lot of attachments here in Chatt. Before I moved out here about 18 months ago, I had lived in the same basic area my entire life. Out here, I knew my brother and his wife's family, but that was it.

I'm not real big on personal connections, but it is going to be different moving to an area where I basically know nobody. It'll be more tough on my parents, I think... now they won't be able to come to Chatt and see both their sons all the time. At least Chatt will still be close enough for a day/weekend trip...

Check out Dunwoody. It's a great town just outside of Atlanta but close to most of the stuff. Not as north as say Alpharetta. It's like a small town within a town. It's off of 285.

You'll get used to the traffic, and there's always stuff to do there. Baseball games are always a plus too...

Good luck, congrats, and be safe in your travels.

Congrats! At this point, be thankful to have a job/offer, period. So many folks who would love to find work, even if it meant moving.

Like you said ATL isn't all that far from the Choo-Choo.

Best of luck!

Well, nuts. I was about to offer my four (and a half) years of experience of living in Atlanta, but all of my knowledge is confined to within 285. That said, if you can live outside of it, do so.

Also, if you can live somewhere that does not require commuting on any of the major highways, do so. MARTA is actually better than it seems, though it is far from reaching everywhere.

Otherwise, congratulations on the job! :koolaid:

Kennesaw, GA...its 26 miles north of Atlanta, its a bit of a drive...but beats the hell out of living IN Atlanta.

Just a suggestion...and its gonna suck driving to and from work no matter where you live (285 is a pain in the a$$ during rush hour...)

+1 on Kennesaw. Good luck and congrats on the new job. Atlanta isn't THAT bad and MARTA is generally entertaining, just carry....

i go to atlanta sometimes twice a week. what a pain. some areas need to be burned down (again) and others are high price. normal peole live outside the beltway. way outside. traffic sucks, no matter what time of day. i have found if you get off the freeway you can get around faster downtown. and "crack head bob" is always trying to break into your car. but there is so much to do in the big city.

Well, it's official. Accepted the offer today, and I'll be starting April 20th.

Lot to get done in the next four weeks.

I expect I'll be up on a pretty regular basis, what with my brother living in Chatt and my parents out here about half the time as well, working on their house.
