Had an R1 that was a fine pistol. 聽Took a couple of classes with 600 rd count, never an issue. 聽Gave it to my son. 聽Colt Combat Commander now is owned by grandson. 聽Told him when he could handle it, Lock slide back etc it was his.

Yes, it is, Shot by the owner of Rock River Arms

Les Baer started the 1.5 guarantee, my SRP had it and was a tac driver, however I like this one much better

Very nice pistol. I like it!聽馃憤

But C'mon now, Nobody can have just one 1911.聽馃檮

I didn't acquire the 1911 bug until 2009. Got to fire a Colt Officer's Model. I was hooked.

I picked up a Rock Island over the weekend. Fit what I wanted for now. I looked at a Charles Daly (now from CZ) and was very impressed with fit, finish, and trigger. I wonder about how well the Daly would run it was so tight. Never owned or shot a high end 1911 so I only know what I read about those. I've fired some REALLY loose GI pistols though. Went to the range to coach my platoon mate, since I had qualified the week before, they thought it was safe to send my normal issue pistol in for armorer's maintenance so I got a loaner. Had to push the slide lock pin back in every three rounds. BTW, still fired expert level. 馃檪

I went to the gun show many years ago to buy a Taurus 1911, when they first came out.聽 I found the Taurus 1911 next to this Colt series 80. The Taurus was a POS so I got the Colt.聽 I saw no reason to buy another since this one works 100%. Now I want a Rock Island!聽 I paid $600 and some change for it.

Great looking Colt.聽 Funny story..... I actually did buy the Taurus 1911 that you mention and brought it home.聽 Right out of the box, it was (and still is today) the most accurate shooting 1911 that I own.聽 I know the reputation has some "burrs" on it, but the one I bought is a true "tack driver."

The blueing on the Taurus 1911 was terribly flawed. I think that salesman put those two 1911s together on purpose.聽

Mine was actually stainless so I did not see the bluing issue.聽聽

I have a need for the Taurus 1911 duo-tone. I think the blackened against stainless is terrific looking though some I have seen on GB look poorly finished. Nice Colt though, can't say you were wrong. I had a stainless AMT Government Model. I miss it. Can't go wrong with a good Colt though.

The Rock Island is like a base model Harley, it will turn into a money pit. 馃檪聽But that's what I wanted. We will see how it shoots before throwing money at it though.

The son dug an old series 70 Colt gubmt model out of the safe the other evenin and I handled it for a while.聽It re- reminded me how great they are.聽

I went ahead and rounded me up a Fusion Freedom ( gubt with good sights, beaver tail, n skeletonized hammer ) to shoot a bit.

聽 I finally took it out the other day n shot it.聽 I like it alot, the problem is my 78 year old hands are wearing out.聽

I'm letting the pistola twist in my grip a bit, and it ain't lockin the slide back on the last round.聽 I like the Fusion alot, I just need a bit more wrist n hand strength.聽 聽

I'ma guessin that that trip was the first time in 40 years I've shot one.聽 They are a great pistola, plenty of power and an extra good trigger.

There ain't nothing like a gubt model...

I鈥檝e owned many 1911s over the years. 聽My favorite was a Colt Combat Commander that was stolen in a break in years ago. 聽Currently I have a that I won鈥檛 part with. 聽They aren鈥檛 my EDC but I love them both. One is a Sig Carry model in stainless and the other is a full size 1911 Sig calls We The People.

I HATE this thread.

After decades of love for the 1911 and 45 acp sold mine off, ammo too.聽 Too old for serious target and got out of reloading, avid steel plinker though.

Now this thread has me looking at Bud's for a 9mm 1911.聽 Many thousand of 9mm reloads in my closet.聽

So there goes a grand plus an optic.聽

Gosh darn it!
