Hello all…

Hello everyone. I just joined up today in order to get some information on different areas in TN. I’m a 45 year old with a wife and two kids (10 and 14 years old) currently living in North East Pennsylvania. I’ve been collecting, restoring and shooting all things firearms for the last two decades. Of course I am pro 2A in every way. My wife and I both conceal carry and at this point giving that up would never be an option. I have also gotten but by the hunting bug both small and big game taking my 1st white tail this past Thanksgiving.

unfortunately the last 5 years have been rough in me and I am now considered permanently disabled due to a neuromuscular disease. Because of the drastic change in all things lifestyle we are looking to move to a more milder climate and to a place that is more secure in its beliefs. Of course Tennessee is one of those places along with certain parts of North and South Carolina. I figured asking those who are like minded and would be considered my peers would be a good place to start and joined up here.

I will ask some more specific questions in a different thread in order to keep this in topic for this section.

Thanks

Hodgie

Howdy Hodgie, and welcome to the forum.

I'm a relatively new comer to Tennessee, having moved here 3 1/2 years ago. My wife and I love it here and are happy that we moved.

One thing I'd suggest is checking to see if you can get the health care you need in whatever area you choose to move into. My wife and I have been disappointed in that regard. We have excellent insurance, but still have had some trouble finding doctors that meet our needs. I've never before experienced what seems to be common here; being asked to "apply" to become a patient. But maybe I've just had bad luck in that regard, and fortunately we just need routine health care, nothing too specialized so far. (knock on wood)

We're lucky that in our rural neighborhood we have friendly, helpful neighbors, And the government here suits us just fine. I expect to stay here until I die.

Hello and welcome,

Darrell is correct. Nashville is heavy in health care and health insurance with several major players being headquartered and having a large corporate presence here. My wife works in Healthcare IT and has worked for several of them. The greater Nashville area is pretty much awash in hospitals, specialists, and large specialty practices. Get out side of the metro area and things get more difficult. There is a real problem with hospitals, clinics, and rehab centers being closed down in rural counties, often leaving behind huge gaps in available care for residents to navigate.

I will add that Tennessee is not necessarily a milder climate we just shift our extremes the other way. We may not get the cold and snow you do but our summers (sometimes our springs and falls also) can be brutally hot with ridiculously high humidity. If you can tolerate 90+ degrees with 80%+ humidity better than you can snow and cold then it might be for you.
