Are they gouging?

I can understand some of both sides of this argument, but the other day I was looking for ammo for a pistol I have that I don't even have one round of ammo for. It occurred to me, that had that been my only means of self defense, and my family had become endangered, any option I had to get a $15 box of ammo is long since sold out. I know I can go to a certain local shop that has raised their prices to $35 a box, but it remains in stock on the shelves. If my family is in danger, you better believe that I'll pay that $35 because that box of ammo is needed. In this situation, if the store had not raised their prices, they would not have been able to ensure that someone who truly needed the ammo could have it available to them. They would also have been sold out, and I would be defending my family with an empty chunk of metal. I certainly don't like the fact that I would have to pay the $35 instead of the $15, but I would surely be glad to have a box at $35. Had I PLANNED better, I would have had that box of ammo before prices went up, and would have saved it for such an occasion.

You nailed it!!!

That family that is not as well off as me, why? Did they not work as hard, perhaps on the dole already and waiting for more gubment help?

What pissed me off most about Katrina was these folks that stayed and got flooded out then complained the government did nothing for them did NOTHING to help themselves! They knew for days it was coming, it was bad or had the potential but they did nothing!

The old supply sergeants quote still hangs with me

"Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine"

...or maybe folks are buying everything up because of fear of having to pay 35 bucks for ammo.

I see it like ticket scalpers. The ticket scalper says without him,you wouldn't be able to see the game.

I say without him, there would have been several more tickets still available :screwy:

Since when did it become a crime to make money? Seriously, I know some prices are high and some things are hard to find, but hey I love to make money and I'm not ashamed of it. I guess you could always just let the Government regulate all prices, cause that works soooooo well.

I'm so fed up with the "everybody deserves to have the same thing" philosophy. No one is entitled to anything. Work hard, look for opportunities to better yourself, and do the best that you can. There are no guarantees in life.

As for the Katrina thing, I have some mixed/jaded feelings about the example given earlier. $40 rooms going up to $400 gouging? Maybe, but maybe not. If the evacuees sh** on the floors, stunk up the rooms smoking crack and meth, and attacked the employees like they did at MTSU's Rec Center I would consider it covering the additional expenses that the business incurred not gouging.

Off my soap box now.

I might as well asked, "Whats' better, a Glock or a Springfield". Or better yet, "Whats' The best round/caliber"! LOL

Guys/Ladys' No harm intended. We all have our opinions, morals, standards, but we are all on here for the same purpose. We believe in the 2nd, we are true americans, and we have a standard in our life to protect our own and our loved ones. Please dont shoot me for this post! ;)

Never intended the outcome. I will watch what I ask/post from now on.

I just have to respond. I am a die hard Glenn Beck/L Rushbough fan. I am right winged. I feel no pitty for a man that doesnt earn his keep or what he needs. But, There are people out there that cant help it. The 20-60 year olds that suffered in Katrina, they might could have done something. The elderly that suffered, most of them protected us in other times. And those are the ones I am talking about. If y0ou are 35 and too good to work at MC D's to make a dollar for your family, well then when the **** hits the fan, kiss it. I will help your kids, but you can get bent.

That is my standpoint. I just want it to be clear that I am right winged, anti socialism (obama), and am for free market (small business rules).

Profit = free market = our america / Taking advantage of a falling economy/need for our beloved product = bad customer service

I am in the trucking business. I see this more than the regular economy. Their is a life cycle of the trucking biz. Freight rates go up, new trucking companies pop up everwhere. The influx of trucks lowers rates..... Rates go down, those small trucks go out of business...... The good ole' boys are always there. They know the economy. It will fluctuate. We are a Strong America. We are the ****. We will come back. But that gunshop that "raised their prices because the demand supported it" loses my business.

Thats just my .075 cents. (will be my 2 cents when I am old enough and wise enought to have earned more)

Its no different when you buy a car or any appliance! Prices have gone up greatly with guns, but as in past at shows or dealers you have to look.

Show last week wasr $529. at 1 dealer, next dealer $599. another $699. all the same type. FN FS 2000 i dealer $2399. next $2599. another $2899.

Same as always except the higher prices! It seems prices for slings have gone up 50-60%.:screwy:
