So I have my daughter this year for Springbreak. Although moneys a little tight weve decided to take a couple days to get out of town with the kids for a change of scenery. We got a great price on a room on the main strip in Gatlinburg. Is there any city ordinance or anything against carry up threre on the strip? Well probably just be walking up & down the strip along with doing the put put stuff & go carts in Pigeon Forge. As long as im not in places the serve alcohol im good right? I just wanna make sure im good to go. I dont like being away from the house without a little equalizer.

I thought that there was a law that said cities were not allowed to make up their own carry laws?

I wasnt sure is why i posted it here. Im pretty knowledgable here in my neck of the woods but didnt know if there were any little ordinances in that little tourist town.

I was there a few weekends ago and I did not see one "no guns" sign.

I would recommend to stay concealed though. But have it handy entering or leaving the the hotel.

Def plan on staying concealed. No need for unwanted attention or hassles. Only debating is taking the xd-m or the emp. Prob gonna take the xd-m since it holds more rounds.

carried there a month or two ago and will be on vacation in 3 weeks. didn't see a since business in gatlinburg/pidgeaon forge posted....they are tourist driven and at least know that gun owners spend money..unlike some local businesses that lose business daily by posting and keeping us out

A city can not pass a city ordnance against carry within that city.

39-17-1314 Local regulation of firearms and ammunition preempted by state regulation — Actions against firearms or ammunition manufacturers, trade associations or dealers.

(a) No city, county, or metropolitan government shall occupy any part of the field of regulation of the transfer, ownership, possession or transportation of firearms, ammunition or components of firearms or combinations thereof; provided, that the provisions of this section shall be prospective only and shall not affect the validity of any ordinance or resolution lawfully enacted before April 8, 1986.

Of course any city can post city property per 39-17-1359

I have also wondered about that. Mainly because it is in the middle of the GSM national Park. I don't guess it really matters now, huh? I also was wondering about in Cherokee, NC. I know my permit is good in NC, but what about on the Reservation? I asked a Res cop and he said, "NC doesn't honor TN permits." I showed him the sheet that I printed out from the state website. It just didn't say anything about the Res. He still didn't believe me!

Well, the park abuts Gatlinburg, but GB is not IN the park. It's simply a TN municipality.

Only that it's legal to open carry in Gatlinburg, but not in the park.

Well, obviously he's wrong about NC in general...but I don't know about reservations. I never really thought about it, but I guess we don't have any reservations in TN.

I don't plan to open carry anywhere... is concealed ok in the park now? I know that there was some question if states had to ok that too.

We go to the res every year for our anniversary. We are both "part" cherokee (she a bit more than me) but I do run into some pretty creepy indians around there. What about on the Natchez Trace in Nashville to Mississippi? I go there often (Mississippi) and the cops there aren't really sure. Or is that an all inclusive allowance the carry allowed in National Parks

There all good as long as you have a permit that the state the park is in recognizes. (I think) Someone will post the official wording I'm sure.

That is correct. If your permit allows you to carry in that state, you can carry concealed in a National Park in that state.

On Tribal land, carry is determined by tribal law. From Handgunlaw.us

Carry on Indian property is controlled by Tribal Law. You must check with each tribe before carrying on their property. Some Indian Tribes consider federal and state highways through their property as under their control. There is a link to the Indian Nations on Handgunlaw.us. Look at the header on any of the main pages at Handgunlaw.us and moving your mouse pointer over Indian Nations will give you seven different links to check on tribal law.

When I was in Arizona last year I learned about their laws about reservation carry. The reservations there are no carry allowed. There were shopping centers on Indian land that had strange rules also. If you bought a gun or ammo at a Wal Mart on Indian land, the tribal police had to carry it off property and then hand it to you. And, you could not bring it back for any reason.

Couple of businesses in Gatlinburg who ban handguns inside the building. Check entry of restaurants and other businesses before carrying inside.

Be certain to check with the Information Center as you are coming into Gatlinburg for the latest rules and regs regarding carrying firearms inside the state park.

The fancier restaurants mostly sell booze.

It's not a state park, it's a National Park, and with permit, you can carry in it. Concealed only. Except for "federal buildings", the definition of which is gray.

You certainly shouldn't "check" with anyone.
