Emerson Knives Elvia

This is my new Emerson Knives "Elvia"

 

If you already follow Ed Calderon of Ed's Manifesto (edsmanifesto.com) you've undoubtedly seen the Elvia in his social media.  Ed is a former Mexican government anti narco-terrorism agent who spent more than a decade fighting against the cartels in Northern Mexico.  He has since retired and is now an American citizen and a very well-regarded specialist in anti-abduction, escapology, unarmed combat, region-specific executive protection work, and unconventional-edged weapons work.

The Elvia is named in honor of his mother and is based on the design of a kitchen knife that she once used to defend her family.  Ed began carrying this type of knife in his work and found it to be incredibly practical.  He approached Ernest Emerson along the way and asked Emerson if he could turn the fixed blade design into something foldable.  Emerson did.

 

This knife is held and used differently than conventional knives.  It maximizes the user's biomechanics and strength to use digging and pulling motions.  The result is... brutally efficient.

That is one wicked looking blade. Where did you find that one, I might need to add one of those to my carry knives.

Emerson has had them in stock quite a few times recently.  He just went out of stock 2-3 days ago, but bookmark this link and check it daily and you'll catch one:  The Elvia - Emerson Knives Inc.

Emerson has a "notify me" type option, but a lot of times emails from manufacturers and vendors go out after the knives have already been on their website for a few hours.  Once the email goes out, you and everyone else who was waiting for them will pound the website and they'll sell out fast.  Just keep an eye on that product page instead.

I kinda like his idea about having a Kydex sheath made and then picking up a fruit knife or paring knife at a local store after you fly into whatever city you are in. Then ditch the knife at the airport, when you head home. Just about every city has a walmart.  

Better yet.  Forget the sheath, since you might not be able to get the exact knive you had it made for.  Just get some cardboard and some tape and make a sheath for whatever knife you pick up.  You could probably make it from the packaging...

This is all Gray Man stuff though.
