AIWB Holster with Light or No Light?

Recommended Posts

I’ve become a big fan of Tenicor holsters lately. The Certum 3 in particular.  I am currently carrying my G48 in a Certum 3 with no weapon light and will shortly be adding a G19X with a MRDS and possibly a TLR7A to the rotation.  I’m trying to decide between the standard and light mounted version of the holster.

I know all holsters are different for each person but am wondering if any of you have opted for a light mount holster in the AIWB position and regretted it. The obvious width difference is mainly what I am worried about as I like to wear mine around the 12:30 position rather than centerline. I’m afraid the light portion would make uncomfortable contact.

I do carry a flashlight separately but have always wanted to add a weapon light into the mix if possible. I’d be perfectly content without it though.

What say you?

I started carrying AIWB mid last year with my Staccato P DPO w HOLSUN 507C X2 in a TENICOR, and I bought a leather AIWB Holster from KUSIAK Leather. I don't carry with a light, just two extra mags. Here's a couple of pictures showing the TENICOR and KUSIAK. I put a foam wedge on the TENICOR makes a difference in comfort.20210426_130012.thumb.jpg.21805415866d70490dfc497539a0a1e6.jpg20210426_130019.thumb.jpg.f3989c784f0ed7ef8c0a8e27a1a8fb9d.jpg20210521_134604.thumb.jpg.764aece45dbc23a95e6d3ad62ea95383.jpg20210508_105052.jpg.77ed084561bec1568aae45f1bf90fbc7.jpg20210819_160341.thumb.jpg.578d76c3e1d9a6a15b769600dd871921.jpg20210819_160244.thumb.jpg.b2d4f28b1f0b18f148246a4a3b49b03d.jpg20210819_160227.thumb.jpg.a7d6be1ecdecb46f6f53335bd93bf7c8.jpg20210823_102238_001.thumb.jpg.48f557d525b38be4427788aeb4aa361c.jpg

I installed a TLR7c on my 365L & I carry exclusively AIWB. I did carry it for a while in the same make holster, before the light & for a few weeks, I chopped & changed back & forth until I decided that I really do prefer the light option. There's an obvious difference in holster thickness but once I'm wearing it, it's is literally unnoticeable. I'm new to carrying, so I was still very aware that the pistol was there for the first few hours each time & even then I couldn't tell which holster I was using at the time. The holster is a JX Tactical 'Fat Guy' & it does carry quite a bit lower than a regular AIWB. I couldn't say whether that makes a difference or not, simply because I've no other experience.
