Thanks for the info. We stayed at a place at Guntersville Lake a couple of years back. Going down a Deliverance type road, we suddenly encountered a “Road Closed” sign. According to Mapquest, it was going to be about a 40 mile trip to detour. Wife asked “What do we do now?” I told her we were going to see just how “closed” it was. First time I ever went 4 wheeling while towing a bass boat. We made it.😁

Guntersville Lake is where a youtuber guy called Richard Gene The Fishing Machine makes a lot of videos fishing. I've been there a few times. Pretty neat area and yes , on the outskirts it is a Deliverence type looking area . I'd like to fish that area one day.

I’d suggest going to the Guntersville end. We were up towards Scottsboro, and the whole lake was full of grass. Like fishing in a flooded hay field.

I live in Townsend. I hike a good bit, fly fish, ride/walk the greenway. There’s some new mountain bike trails. 2-3 decent places to eat. Very quiet this time of year, but weekends can still get a little crowded.  Driving Cades Cove is horrible these days, I’ve heard it can take up to 4 hours. The tubing businesses boom during the summer. There’s seasonal events, spring festival, fall festival, hot air balloon festival, etc.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. This place is a wealth of information.

I despise Pigeon Forge, but really enjoyed Townsend. I’ve got to get my bike up there this summer to ride the Dragon’s Tail.

Don’t tell everybody about Townsend, or it’ll get crowded too.😃

Went to Townsend yesterday, had some breakfast at the Pancake House then rode Foothills Pky to 129 before they close it next week. Stopped at the HD outpost for a while, lots of bikes and tons of cars coming off the Dragon. Nice day nice ride. I stay away from the Dragon on weekends.
