Hello-

Looking for information on requirements for Concealed Carry?  I am moving to the Lenoir City area and looking for info.  I am Retired Army, have an FFL and A CCW from Arizona.  Question I have is- Can I turn in my AZ CCW, pay the fee and get TN CCW ?   FFL will be transferred per ATF req.

Welcome to Tennessee! I hope you like it as well here as I do.

I moved here three years ago from Washington, and I had the same question. What I had to do wasn't a "swap", but my WA CCL was good for three months, I think. In that time I was able to sign up and take the TN CCL course, which is a one-day affair with some classroom time and an hour or so on the range to show basic proficiency. It was pretty easy.

You do not need a license to carry CONCEALED here. There are certain areas where you cannot carry, but in-general TN allows concealed carry for those who are legally allowed to own firearms. You won't go wrong if you go ahead and take a course, though.

You need a carry permit to open carry in TN, is this correct?

Sorry I answered my own question.  No open or concealed  there is no permit needed.

GFY Tactical, go ahead & get your carry permit. That allows you to be covered when carrying in other states as you travel.

Personally, *I* am not a fan of open carrying. It invites scrutiny I don't want to have nor seek.

True, but the state still does offer a CCW that is easy to obtain and is recognized by other states.  Thus if you are traveling with your gun, it is best to go and get it so that you're covered in many (but not all) states.

The short version is that we don't have Constitutional Carry yet. You need a permit.

Details here:https://www.tn.gov/safety/tnhp/handgun/permittypes.html

You do not need a permit to carry in your vehicle. It's considered essentially the same as your home or business.

You do not need a permit to carry on your person either.  Who does not know this?

"Starting with the ‘new’ rules around carrying a firearm in Tennessee with its new “constitutional carry” law:"

  • "Basically, anyone over the age of 21 can open- or conceal-carry a handgun without a permit."

I guess I missed that recent change. I knew they made the old HCP into an Enhanced HCP and added a lesser "regular" HCP. I see now that we do have permitless carry, but there are more restrictions on where you can carry w/o a permit.
