CCW Permit Question

Hey guys,

New guy here but I've been a lurker for a while. I've taken my permit class and paid the $100 for the class and got my certificate. However, I ran into a bunch of trouble applying for my birth certificate and failed to make the cutoff for the certificate date. It says six months and it has been a year now since I took the class. I now have the birth certificate in the mail headed this way.

Do I have to retake this class? I really can't afford to take the class and pay the application fee at the DMV. I guess I will if I have to but it will delay the process even longer and I really don't have the money.

I took the class at Coal Creek Armory and Kent Brown was my instructor. I thought about just showing up there and asking, but I wanted to make sure that was cool before I go waltzing in there. Any thoughts? Anyone else had this problem or am I the only idiot without their ducks in a row?

HCP class certificates are only good for 6 months. You will have to retake the class.

ETA: Do some shopping around in your area for other instructors. You should be able to find a class for a less money. You might also explain you situation to the prior instructor, maybe they will offer a discount if you take the class from them again.

Call Coal Creek back and check with them first. They may give you a discount for taking it again with them. If they won't work with you, call the Knox County Sherrifs Regional trainning Academy and ask for Senior Instructor Sgt. Mike Lett. He teaches the HCP course. Course retakes are $65 (I think). It happened to a friend and Mike took off $20.

Why in the world did it take so long for your BC.

Got mine in a month from out of state, that I haven't seen in 40 years.

Sounds more like BS, stop procrastinating

I had to go through Atlanta, GA to get it. They lost my paperwork twice. TWICE! That includes(wherever the hell it went) 20 bux each time and a copy of my DL. They were the rudest government office i have dealt with in my life. It has been about two months since this last one was sent off and they finally told me it was in the mail last week. I did procrastinate a little as I averaged about 65h a week 6-7 days a week all last year up until christmas. Added, all that time was spent away from home. I install medical equipment all over the southeast.

Now why I explained that just to shut some dumb**** on the internet up...I dont have an answer for that one.

**** Happens dude. Keep your rude comments to yourself please.

call where ever you took the class. when i got my certificate after the class, the instructor said that if any of us ran into some red tape and ran past the 6 months date for the certificate, to call her and she would redo the certificate for a small fee just as long as we had the one that came from her.

it wont hurt, what are they going to tell you.....no? it might work. give it a shot. just make the sob story good so it makes you look good hahahaha

good luck.
