If calling for help in an emergency is your goal, just get a satellite locator beacon.  They're easy and cheap.

If you want to dive into the radio rabbit hole, and it's a quite a cavern, get a radio.

Well, the problem is when calling for help it might be different each time. One time I may only need a wrecker? One time I may only need gas or air for my tire? Or I may need medical help & can't walk out?

My thought is I can get someone on the radio who can call one of my cousins or (worst case) just call me a wrecker.

I have been told (warned? LOL!) that the radio world is every bit addictive as buying guns. The good news for me is I want it for a specific reason, for a specific purpose. I have a photography addiction as well as my firearm addiction to worry about. I don't have room in my life for another addiction.  😝
