Lately I've found myself wanting an AK to stash but the prices are a turn off. Someone posted a beautiful specimen from Poland in the classifieds. Is 7.62 ammo just as outrageous as every other caliber right now?

Depends on your definition of outrageous. Id consider .32/round the new decent price post Russian ammo sanction. Theres been some posted here at decent prices. Bottom line is if you want in better take the plunge. I don't see sitting this one out like years past.

I would agree with Fujimo. If you *think* you might have interest in the platform, I wouldn’t hesitate. The days of the $300-400 AK are gone and never coming back. Prices on imports are pretty much only going in one direction. The biggest thing is ammo. I’ve never heard of sanctions on guns & ammo being lifted. So the prices of ammo aren’t likely to get any better as the Russian imports were the primary pressure keeping ammo prices as low as they were. As those imports dry up, the prices will move up.

I could be entirely wrong, but pretty much everyone I know in this space is of the same opinion. 😕

What AK options would be at the top of your list? I really one one with the traditional looking wood furniture.

So many choices. Key is to invest in a quality brand.

Saiga, Arsenal, Norinco, Maddi, VEPR, Russian WASR (older model) . Furniture can be changed to suit. I may know someone if you want to test drive one 🤔

Two things. First, figure out your budget. What are you willing to spend?

Second, how much use is it likely to get? Are you just wanting an AK to shoot and play with? To run hard? An investment piece?

Figure out the answers to these questions and you’ll get pointed in the right direction.

Budget $1000-1200.

Use- probably won't get shot a ton. I'm not shooting a lot these days as I conserve ammo. I want something to shoot occasionally that would potentially go up in value over time.

If you you want an opportunity for any sort of value increase at all at that price point, you’re pretty late in the game. Most of the good imports have gotten above that point already. You’ll just have to keep your eye out for a deal like that Saiga that was on here a few weeks ago. That was a solid steal at that price.

What you’re looking for is a Russian or European import from one of the former eastern bloc countries. Hell, if you come across a Norinco from someone who doesn’t know what they’ve got, I’d leap at that as well, though I seriously doubt you’d find one around that price.

The currently imported Polish guns are a commercial company built for US sales and not milsurp kit guns. They will be very unlikely to appreciate in value.
