Vanderbilt ran off James Franklin?  He was offered a big pay increase at a big time football school.

And a chance to get outta Dodge amidst that rape scandal. I don’t blame him for leaving, but sure hate he left.

Yes, but he would've stayed were it not for the rape arrests. He as much said it in later interviews. Vandy could've gotten close to his pay, they've got the $$$, they just don't want to spend it on their coaches.

While they're the only private school in the SEC, they're well known for being in the last one or two in pay for head coaches in any sport. Tim Corbin in baseball may be the only exception, but obviously I don't know the actual numbers.

I've followed VU sports since Bill Pace was the football coach. (You kids go look him up.) I went to games when they still used folding chairs right behind the sidelines. Memorial gym seats had no backs to them then either. I was also at the VERY first women's basketball game in the NCAA that was sold-out. It was so full Lee Greenwood had to have a police escort in order to get in to sing the anthem before the game. The Fire Marshall had locked the doors (not with chains, of course) due to the gym being over capacity. The game was on tv too. Lady Vols won, claiming the #1 spot afterwards.

In short, I've been attending Vandy games a long, long time.

That's a bit of an exaggeration.  You can count the number of football games Vanderbilt won against UT in the last 10 years on one hand - but you will need every finger.

You're correct, I stand corrected.

VU has won six times since 1983. Quite the accomplishment.  🙄

You are correct. Of course, in the last decade, they are 5-5. Either Vanderbilt has gotten more competitive or UT has fallen significantly. Or possible a bit of both.

I'd bet they're neck & neck in # of coaches hired/fired too.  😆

I want to think UT leads that race, but I’m too lazy to verify.

Well Bobbie'sBBguns this "kid" attended his first Vanderbilt football game when Art Guepe was the head coach (look him up).  Family had basketball season tickets starting in the 1950's.  So Vanderbilt got rid of James Franklin when players were facing rape charges?  So you wanted Vanderbilt to keep a coach who was running a program with questionable institutional  controls and was tarnishing the university's image (no matter how much he won)?  Now Eddie Fogler was a different story.

I well know who Guepe is/was. He may well be the last coach they had who won with semi-regularity.

I never said I wanted VU to keep Franklin or not. Much like Fogler, VU had the opportunity to match PSU's offer & they declined to do so. The rape charges came after Franklin had left, IIRC? I recall reading Franklin gave "advice" to one or two of the players to erase their cell phones, so he may have been there just until charges landed, I don't recall.

You know, I've never had any sort of interaction with you before, good or bad. Nor do I appreciate the childish demeaning of my screen name. You want to disagree with me, fine. That's your right by all means. But why do you insist on making it a poo flinging affair with the name calling? Is that how your parents brought you up? Just curious.
