My new XDM 10mm

I just received my Springfield XDM Compact 10mm handgun. The first thing I noticed was my pinky finger barely caught the bottom of the grip. I immediately order two 15 round extended mags to get a full grip.聽

Might be a little bulky in my hands but it is a 10mm. After installing the 3-size backstrap (large), I did get a better feel.聽

I chose the model without the optic since it would be a "close encounter" pistol. My Sig P220 Hunter is for long range shooting.

Anxious to get to the range to determine if it's a keeper.聽

I own a couple of XDMs in 9 and 45 and contemplating a 10....

Don't think about it & just go get one!聽聽馃槈

With the proper ammo, the 10mm is a wonderful self-defense ammo. Car doors, steel entry doors, windshields, etc. the 10mm scoffs at such nonsense (again, with the proper ammo).聽

Recoil feels pretty close to .357mag, IMO. But instead of 125gr bullet, it'll have a 165 or 180gr bullet. That's a nice jump in energy, IMO.聽

Accuracy has been all over the place for me in my personal 10mm's. My Glock 30SF & 29, my Tangfolio all had average accuracy at best. Then I went to the 1911s in 10mm & WOW, did that change! STI & Nighthawk both perform exactly as one would think with that quality, so no surprise there. What did surprise me were my Rock Islands in 10mm. I have their Commander & 2011 models. Both are well above the Glocks but a good notch below the STI & Nighthawk. Of course, they cost a whole lot less than those brands too.聽

Had the XDM Elite been available when I was stocking up on 10mm's, it may well have been in my Top 3. Beautiful looking gun, IMO.

Still waiting on the M&P 10mm. 聽If it is like my full size 45, it will be a winner.

I'm anxious to get the M&P 10mm.聽 Debating between the 4.0" and the 4.6" versions.聽 I'm cooling my jets for a little bit though to allow them to have some more time in the market.聽 I'm reading of numerous users complaining of FTE/FTF issues and couple of cases of slide mounted optics shearing the screws and flying off under recoil after several magazines.

That's due to a too weak recoil spring coupled with a not-strong-enough-steel screws, IMO. Not necessarily the gun's fault.

I really don't get the M&P fan club. Their triggers are underwhelming, their accuracy is average (as are Glocks) & the ergos are run-of-the-mill, IMO. I get not everyone likes the same thing & so forth. But there seems to be a lot better choices, IMO.聽
