Needing a local instructor

So this is by far the most knowledgeable base I have to work with. Is there anyone close to Roane County willing to take me under their wing and show me the basics of reloading? I mainly want to reload .44 special/magnum and .45-70. I can lay out the money for a basic kit but dont really even know where to start as far as equipment or consumables go. Id rather have a bit of a guiding hand vs simply buying off of internet reviews and educated guesses.

So can we assume that right now you have no reloading gear at all?

The place to begin is to purchase a good reloading manual. They all include instructions on reloading, and will give you a good idea of what you need to start. You don't need to invest  a whole lot of money to begin, but be warned, you can spend a butt-load of money if you're so inclined.

Right now is a tough time to begin reloading, as components are harder to get than they have been in the past. But components are out there. I live about an hour from Oliver Springs, but if you want to come this far I can give you a demo of loading both 45-70 and 44 Mag.

Hey Spots.
im in Roane Co and reload. I have never reloaded 45-70 but have loaded other rifle calibers.  The process is the same and I reload a lot of pistol ammo. I would be glad to help. Let me know thru PM and I will get you my cell #

I’d be more than happy to share what little knowledge, but I’m probably farther away than you’d like to travel. If not, pm me, and you are more than welcome to come over.

This right here. ^^^^^^ Components are very hard to get right now and what is out there is priced outrageously. You'd be better off buying factory ammo.

Ill be giving all three of you a shout through PMs here shortly. Id like to observe and talk with all of you about your experience, equipment, etc as well as gain reccomendations on what to buy first, what is necessary and what is just nice to have.

My plan is to invest in the equipment now and just buy components as availability and prices normalize in the future.

I half agree. loaded ammo may be cheaper and easier to get right now but if you can get components and learn to load it would be helpful if the supply of loaded ammo dries up again. I can't get 30-30 ammo or large rifle primers reasonable at present so my 30-30 sits in the rack being lonely. but I CAN get LRP so it is possible.

Hey man, likewise happy to help! I'm in Kingston.

Currently loading 9mm. Just got some used equipment, might be able to get you a press. If you can find primers, the rest should be fairly easy. Just be prepared to pay.
