Would it be illegal if I bought a handgun under my name and then give it to my grandson when he is old enough to legally possess it?

Not an issue in Tennessee. As long as the person is legally eligible to own a handgun you should be good to go.

Mostly true.  If your grandson is a Tennessee resident you are good to go.  If he resides in another state then legally it would need to be transferred through an FFL.

Good answers but Tennessee is a bit strange.

One can legally own a handgun but not buy one before the age of 21.

If grandson can walk into a gun store and buy a pistol, then there is absolutely no question about legality.

I had to give my grandson's guns to his father as he was in another state and under age. Did the transfer, and background check, at a local gun store in Charleston S C. Only way to be legal. I am giving my guns to my grandchildren before I pass on to the next life with Jesus. Three of them are in other states.
