NRA Supporters,

The Friends of NRA Program in Tennessee is growing in 2007 thanks to help and support from several volunteers. We still could use some help in a couple of areas to make Tennessee a big success this year. There is plenty of time to get involved with a local Friends of NRA committee to help sell tickets. Please click here for the list of events: http://www.nrafoundation.org/friends/states/find_event.asp?state=Tennessee. There are now 20 events scheduled for Tennessee, and we still need help to have events chartered in the Columbia area ( Maury county) and in the Johnson City/Kingsport/Tri-Cities area ( Washington county). In the Maury county area, we have everything except the chairman position. There are plenty of folks that will help sell tickets for this event. In the Johnson City area, there was an event scheduled for September 22nd, but was cancelled due to the chairman resigning for personal & policy reasons. We really need help in these areas. Please contact me with any questions on these two events.

Last year the Tennessee State Fund Grant Committee ( made up from volunteers from local Friends committees) viewed 56 grant applications with a total of $323,000.00 in requests. The committee was only able to recommend 46 grants with a total of $97,763 for funding. Now you see the need for the help on the 20 events already scheduled and the help needed for Maury & Washington counties. This is an important program to the youth shooting sport programs in our state. Last year 92.6% of the grant dollars in Tennessee went to these programs. The SCTP teams in Tennessee the last two years have received $98,641 in grants for funding their programs. This is 59% of the total grants & dollars for our state. The youth programs are a big deal.

Tennessee Friends of NRA will have their first state conference this year on Saturday, August 4th in Nashville at the Holiday Inn Select on Elm Hill Pike. Please see the attachment for details. You can come meet Sandy Elkin, NRA Foundation National Grant Manager from NRA Headquarters in Fairfax, VA. Also, there will be special speakers from across the state explaining how the grants help their organizations, workshops, and a nice grand door prize at the end of our event. Please plan to attend and bring a friend.

Thanks for all of the hard work, help, and support of the many Friends of NRA volunteers that make this program a success in Tennessee. I hope to hear from you soon on helping to get Maury & Washington counties chartered and see you at the Tennessee Friends of NRA State Conference. Please forward this information to as many folks as possible. Again, THANKS!!

Mike Webb
