.40 SW +P?

Recommended Posts

I just got a Kahr CW40 that I am going to start carrying. What ammo should I go with? I looked at some Speer Gold Dots today. Can I go with a +P in this gun? I read that a +P isn't recommended for a glock 23.

I do believe there are no real standards set for .40 +p, and didn't really know any was marketed as such?

I'd suggest a Danger Will Robinson approach with any you find, especially with dat widdle Kahr.

I have a couple boxes of Cor-Bon .40 S&W +P ammo. Bought them back in the 1990's, and still have not shot them. The shell casings are also stamped "40S&W+P". I have not seen any labeled like that for many years.

ETA: I got the Cor-Bon ammo out and looked at it. The box is labeled as +P 135gr. JHP @ 1300 fps. That is pretty much in line with the velocities I see for .40 ammo at that weight. I am not sure why it is labeled as +P. :P

The .40S&W is already a high pressure round, adding extra pressure on top of that might get a little dangerous.

+1. I'd be really nervous about shooting +p .40. Most kabooms you hear of are standard load .40.

I carry ranger SXT's in my 40's. plenty of punch, and good data from what i've seen.

If you get some, there are diff versions of the SXT. The LEO marked ones seem to be much better built.
