Reliable CCW Round for my new Glock 26?

I purchased a brand new Glock 26 about a week ago. I have spent hours researching which ammo to carry when i get my permit. My class is March 16 I have decided any one of about 50 loads will be fine

To cut to the chase.... How many rounds of the expensive stuff do i need to feed my Glock 26 before determining that it is reliable enough?

Guess I was hoping you guys could point me to a round known to feed reliably in the 26. One that I could just shoot enough of to get a feel for. Then shoot a couple mags of it a month, rather than blowing $250 or so in an hour (double that if there is a jam).... Assuming I could even find that much of the primo stuff ...I plan to shoot a lot of the cheap stuff too, btw.

My recommendation would be Winchester Ranger "T"s, Federal HST's, or Speer Gold-Dots. Any one of those should function fine and be a good solid carry ammo.

Edit: Oh....and personally, I would put 500rds of practice ammo through my gun, then at least 2 boxes of what I want to carry. 5 if you can afford it.

Thanks for the super-quick responses! I believe Classic Arms had a few 20 round(?) boxes of the Gold Dot +p a couple days ago.... I will keep an eye out for the others you guys mentioned too though.

So, all things considered, I'm just going to test 25 rounds or so before trusting my Glock 26 with it. If anyone thinks that is unreasonable, please let me know.

Haven't shot +p in about 12yrs. I'm sure the price per round will have me flinching more than the +p will though

I'd carry HST 124g +p or 124g +p Ranger-T if I could find them. I also use Hornady Tap 124g because they seem to be available.

I appreciate those links, man. Good stuff! I worry about how different the results of tests like that may be if done with a 3.46" barrel like the 26's. Especially that 2nd link where they were using a 4.5 and 4.75 barrel... Afraid of losing just enough velocity to not expand. I probably worry too much though

Yeah. Availability will sadly have to figure greatly into the equation :-\ Will add those to my list.

I carry Gold Dot 124's in my G26. I have yet to find anything the G26 won't eat. It is not a picky gun, loves to be shot a lot and it doesn't even mind if you don't clean it much.

I have about 2000 rounds through mine and never a problem. I run my 3 mags out of whats in them when I change carry ammo out about every 3 or 4 months.

That's really good to hear, Mike I had a G-23 (from '94) that was like that. Hated to trade it, but was the only way to get the 26. I'm not regretting it at all so far though

Gold Dot's have a short barrel specific version that should work well. as far as the others, I don't think you'll have much problem with the +p loadings.

Sorry... One more concern.... Is the +p stuff going to handle a lot differently than cheap loads (i.e. Blazer or WWB)? I had rather not have *too* much difference in my practice and carry ammo. I'm not saying that's a deal breaker on the +p, but would like to have some idea before investing in it.

I'd go with the +P. Buffalobore.com has some great ammo too. I've shot their 357 sig, and 38 special +P. What ever you get you should fire a couple just to get the feel of the gun.

Well, you'll certainly know the diff when you shoot it.

It won't blow the gun out of your hand or anything, but there's a 10-15% oomph differential with all the +p 9mm I've shot compared to range class ammo.

So yeah, you ought to shoot enough of it to know what to expect.

I found it interesting to stagger +p and regular charge rounds and shoot, just so technique stays same.

Makes a lot of sense. I'll get a box of 20, stagger them, and then decide. In any case, i'll be putting a mag or two of whatever i carry through the gun at least once a month.... Thanks, man
