Tom T. Hall has died

On of my favorites......RIP

Tom T. Hall, the singer-songwriter who composed "Harper Valley P.T.A." and sang about life’s simple joys as country music’s consummate blue collar bard, has died. He was 85.

His son, Dean Hall, confirmed the musician's death on Friday at his home in Franklin, Tennessee

Known as "The Storyteller" for his unadorned yet incisive lyrics, Hall composed hundreds of songs.Along with such contemporaries as Kris Kristofferson, John Hartford and Mickey Newbury, Hall helped usher in a literary era of country music in the early ’70s, with songs that were political, like "Watergate Blues" and "The Monkey That Became President," deeply personal like "The Year Clayton Delaney Died," and philosophical like "(Old Dogs, Children and) Watermelon Wine."

Sad to hear this. Love his “Old Dogs and Children” song.  “The bartender was watching Ironsides on tv”…that line is lost on anyone younger than the age of about 50.   I believe it was based on a real experience that he had. Heard him on a radio interview a few years ago and he had a lot of interesting stories.

Loved that song! Another big loss for the music world.

Tom T. was one of my Dad's favorites and I had to listen when we drove anywhere. Seems that Tom's works struck a chord in me, and I began to appreciate the man and his ability to touch my heart with his voice and his lyrics.

May you write many wonderful songs for that Heavenly Choir.

Used to see Tom T. in Clays Sporting Goods in the Melrose area of Nashville way back.  Always a nice man.

God rest the soul of the working man’s poet.

No one could tell a story in song like Tom T. Hall.
