38 Special Snake Loads

Another small tidbit.

The shorter the barrel, the smaller the shot pattern (more shot where you're aiming). IMO #9 or 12 shot out of a 2" barrel is about the best you can do.) I was going to load up some 45 colt rounds but after researching I decided not to. My shortest barrel 45 is 5 1/2 inches.

The reasoning behind this is the rifling in the barrel. The longer the barrel, the more rifling the shot capsule is exposed to so the faster it will spin. When the capsule exists the muzzle and the capsule breaks, the increased spin will throw the shot out in a larger area.

I'm definitely not an expert here but it makes sense to me.  shrug.gif

Only 3 species of good snakes - hatband snakes, belt snakes and knife sheath snakes...

We have a mom & pop  ammo store here that carries a lot of non standard types of ammo, I’ll take a look this weekend and see if they have anything.

You might want to do some reading up on killing snakes in Tennessee

Crawling around trying to ninja up on a antelope and have a snake start rattling 2 feet away makes this fat 67 year old not joining any track team anytime soon😉

How does blasting away at a snake that wants less to do with you than you do with it facilitate you ninja-ing up on an antelope? Why not back up and go around?

People don't get this at all.  Never, in almost 40 years of running around the woods have I encountered a snake that cornered me and wouldn't let me get away. A very significant percentage of people that are bitten are either trying to kill the snake or trying to handle it, while almost no one gets bit minding their own business.  It will be a hard pill to swallow for a lot of folks here but most folks who kill snakes are not educated about snakes and have no knowledge or interest of the role that they play in the ecosystem and in scientific research.  Same "I don't like it so it shouldn't exist" mentality as the people who want to ban guns.

Trying to do a belly crawl on an antelope and have a snake in your face is not fun. I can see you definatly have no experience with snakes close up in your face.  Your opinion is nothing but air. Blasting away?

Wrong again. One of my favorite pastimes as an adolescent/teen was catching snakes - including poisonous ones - but nice try. But then again, I wasn't dumb enough to put my face in theirs.
