NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home

14 & 15 July 2007

Who may take the NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home Course?

This course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law. Every Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit holder should take this course.

Pre-requisites for This Course

1.You must be 21 years of age

2.You must have and show proof of the following NRA Certifications:

·Basic Pistol

·Personal Protection in the Home

Or

Posses a valid State Carry Permit and pass a written and shooting pre-course assessment

NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home Course participants must not only be experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm) but understand and be able to demonstrate defensive handgunning skills such as proper use of cover and concealment as well to participate in this more advanced level course.

Training Course Goal: To develop in students the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed handgun for self-defense outside the home.

Length of Course: Total Class and range time will be as long as fifteen (15) hours.Maximum class size is six (6) so sign up early as this class fills up fast. Range requirements are comprehensive.

Course Lessons:

Lesson 1- Introduction to Concealed Carry Safety and Defensive Mindset

Lesson 2- Introduction to Self Defense and Concealed Carry

Lesson 3- Legal Aspects of Concealed Carry and Self-Defense

Lesson 4- Carry Modes and Concealment

Lesson 5- Presenting a Handgun From Concealment

Lesson 6- Presentation, Position and Movement

Lesson 7- Special Shooting Techniques

Lesson 8- Sport Shooting Activities and Training Opportunities

Lesson 9- Course Review and Examination

What to Bring:A safe attitude; your pistol, (either double action revolver or semi-auto pistol; eye and ear protection (mandatory); cap or boonie hat; ammunition, (three hundred rounds per person); Two magazines for your self-loading (semi-auto) pistol or two speed loaders for your revolver (mandatory); Snap caps or Dummy inert rounds for your pistol (mandatory, six rounds); your Belt/Paddle strong side holster with retention strap or your belt/paddle rigid retention style strong side holster (your holster must cover the trigger with the firearm fully holstered); and/or your fanny pack and holster purse; a vest or jacket that will cover your firearm/holster; Pouches (2) for your magazines or speed loaders. Knee Pads are also recommended for certain exercises. Bring lunch, and drinks on Saturday and snacks and drinks on Sunday. Please note that this class is physically demanding. Wear loose comfortable clothing and bring outer wear suitable for considerable outdoor activities. We will be on the range rain or shine

Note:This is not an easy class to complete. You must exhibit safety at all times, be familiar with various types of pistols and revolvers and be able to shoot reasonably well (ALL shots on target, at least two targets must have a maximum five shot group size of less than 9 inches at 21 feet). Your attitude and participation and shooting ability will determine whether or not your instructors will sign your application for certification in the NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home course.

Course Tuition: $250.00 plus $10.00 range fee. TGO members save 10%

Tuition includes all course materials as listed below:

Unlike other firearms schools that may provide nothing more than some photocopied hand outs as you leave, each of our students receives the following:

·A complete course syllabus outlining the course goals, the length of the course, course lessons, learning objectives, references and resources

·The NRA’s Personal Protection Text Book covering the materials presented in the course as well as being filled with all sorts of reference and resource material.

·A fully illustrated Gun Safety Rules brochure

·A training brochure listing many other training opportunities available to you

·An NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program book that outlines all of the shooting disciplines, their courses of fire and ratings

·An official NRA Certificate is awarded to participants whosuccessfully complete this course.

Sorry folks. Class is now full and registration is closed. Try again in Sept. for this rock & roll, roll in the dirt defensive pistol class.
