Anyone doing anything for the inflation that is coming?

According to one news report I saw yesterday, highest in 30 years.

Yep, it's all good, I know what my core budget is and it's particularly easy for me to stop spending money on extras.

A few million liked minded upper lower and middle class folks follow my lead, let's see what really happens.

Reducing spending and increasing cash / savings seems prudent with the millionaire tax on over $400k...

This bothersome noise from DC supposedly aggregates totals and targets unrealized income which includes equity in a home or those evil tax deferred 401Ks that only certain, lucky, fortunate individuals get.

Add 1.5 trillion in new spending for infrastructure, where 20ish percent is actually for infrastructure, and rain money in the masses, my guess is 81 million voters are going to get what they probably didn't exactly think they were voting for.

Supply chain? Americans sitting at home buying excess items on the internet are the problem, be a part of the solution!

It's interesting that the GOP/Trump actually passed two of the three rounds of stimulus and yet they are calling it Joe Biden's inflation. Short memories it seems.

You do have a point, sir.

The gorilla in that closet is Trump, despite his spending faults, knew how to grow GDP. Its only that ability that has kept our "promise" money solvent for histories sake.  That AH in the WH has absolutely no clue....... And to think some want to make comparisons? Better stop now before the politic monsters get stired up. 🙂

Seems to me that the big driver is the cost of fuel. Gasoline is up nearly 50% from a year ago, and the energy secretary seems to think the idea of opening up more drilling here is funny. The current administration thinks that the environmental benefits of reducing oil consumption outweighs the hardship caused by heavy inflation. They're even talking of closing another pipeline.

Every item you see on a store shelf was delivered by a oil-burning vehicle. If the price of fuel keeps going up, so will the price of food, clothing, hardware and everything else. There's going to be a lot of unnecessary suffering this winter, I fear.

Not a point, a fact!

Adding more just never seems to work out.

Seems to me the last several Presidents have turned their time in office into some sort of spending spree with each one exceeding the prior President (and in some cases exceeding all past Presidents) regardless of party. Fiscal responsibility has been hopeless for decades. I blame it on career politicians of all flavors.

Funny? Yes. Too far off? Nope.

I buy a lot of meats from Sam's Club. ( I try to keep ourselves a fair supply of both, and buy for another family member. Freeze what I can, but running out of freezer space. Have given thought to another freezer lately.)

But to get back on point, the overall changes seems to be on the order of 20-30% in the chicken and beef products.

With farms on the decline for years, chicken and beef production has sufferred. I don't see it improving very quickly.

The filter on TGO blocks the words I have for Tom Cotton. Amazing how they forget how much debt was added from 2016-2020. Even Rand Paul admitted there is no difference between the two parties when it comes to spending.

Focus mostly on the increase from 2000 on. They’re all responsible for our descent into Venezuelan territory.

Both parties suck, so far as I'm concerned. Be that as it may, something's gonna have to give. We can't keep spending ourselves into bottomless debt. We need oil until a better, less-expensive alternative is available. I want food on the grocery store shelves and I don't like spending $8 a pound for bacon.

Picked up a second freezer Saturday, there's a steer in Meigs county with a date at the butcher Monday morning.... I'll get him in two weeks.

Anyone know a good hog farmer in EastTN?

Nice !

Are you wanting to buy one on the hoof and have it processed ? I see ads for those but none I've dealt with.

As for putting back you shouldn't be worried, economic council spokesperson told George Snufflelugapuss this morning once everyone is vaxxed inflation will correct itself sooooo..... 🙄🤭

When it comes to spending, both parties are equally as guilty.

My wife and I were talking about buying a beef the other day.  Sadly, I have no second freezer.  The cost of one would almost be what the beef would probably cost.

He's a friggin' idiot.  Brandon himself admitted the COVID stimulus checks were one of the leading causes of this round of inflation.

As for buying meat, I've changed to different cuts of meat.  Instead of chicken breasts, it's chicken thighs.  Ground beef is supplemented with ground chicken and turkey now. Being more shaved beef, as well. Also eating more fish and seafood. What's a steak or beef roast?

I find it hilarious they portray it as a single causation. And the fix is sure as hell not singular. But that's my opinion.

Regarding preparing i learned a lot from the 2008 O-chit fest and smaller blips since then. As anyone on here that cooks will tell you the cut of meat isn't necessarily a deal breaker. With the right prep you can make cheap cuts come out fantastic.

I spend quite a bit of time in grocery stores and always chuckle at people that blow past cuts on sale and pay crazy prices for the same cut just butchered differently and displayed so its more appealing to the eye.

Having an additional freezer is always a great thing and doesn't stop with meat storage. You can extend the life of grains, seeds, legumes etc with proper prep.

I'm still looking to add a couple more pieces of vital equipment to the arsenal before this "increase demand by reducing the supply" dries up the inventory.

I called around to a bunch of places and asked a lot of questions looking into that route... There's a place near me that charges flat rate for half, or whole, includes everything. First time I've used them, but the price was about what everyone else was telling me it would end up costing, but I had to pay the farmer for the steer, and butcher fee's myself, etc. I like the convenience this guy offers. One trip, hand over cash, drive away with meat, USDA inspected. Hopefully good meat. 16-18 mos old Angus. Will be some fancy tacos in our house on Tuesdays...

Availability played an issue, too. Some places said their next available was March or June of next year. I put my order in for this one a month ago. 6 weeks wait total.

Lol. Sounds great !

I was referring to miss piggy though. Are you wanting to buy it on the hoof like your Angus? I've seen several ads for live where you go out to the lot and pick it out but no one offering processed hog anywhere since Rona took off.

Lol, no Sir, have a lead on a local guy, but only sells it by the package... Haven't asked about a whole yet.

Ironically, there's a Honduran guy on one of my job sites that used to be a butcher, processes deer on the side now, but I was told he could do a hog if I wanted. Got my wheels turning.

I cut meat at a old fashioned meat shop for 7 years, was in chain store retail as cutter and manager also was a meat specialist for a large wholesale company for 7 years.  I have been out west to the feeder lots and processing plants.  The neg of buying whole or half steers is the 1. The amount of waste, a lot of bone and fat. 2. A lot of ground beef. I like mine 80/20 and most places do not defat as much as I would like.  3. I like steaks primarily, most of what one gets in a steer is roast and ground beef.  I have seen meat shops take some steaks out during the processing to keep for themselves so make sure you dealing with a reputable butcher.  When i did them we would weigh the whole thing, cut and wrap it all keep the waste and reweigh it for the customer so they would know we gave it all to them.
