Does anyone feel that our government has completely lost touch with America? I sit here at my computer and read everything that's going wrong with our country and I feel angry that nothing short of a miracle will save us. What can we do as citizens? Protest? Revolt? Or just sit here and be happy we still have the internet and a cold beer in the fridge?

Running for office seams out of the question for most. Many of us have little money after the crippling taxes we pay out of our pay checks every week. Or our 401ks are worth nothing. Gold and Silver have gone sky hi. Gas will go back up! And our paper money is soon to be worth about as much as the paper sitting in my printer.

My wife has told me to either shut up or try and do something to help fix america. I fear that if we wait 4 years Mr O will have done to much to fix it. So again I beg the question. What can we do?

Start an armed revolt. It's the only option. Now the first thing is, you're gonna need a good name for your army. Take inspiration from the plucky high school kids in Red Dawn and call yourselves "The Badgers." Any armed insurgency that wants to be taken seriously is going to need a ferocious, nasty little creature as its mascot.

Look, there are going to be good years and bad years, and obviously we're going through some of the bad years, but I don't feel like this country is on the edge of doom or anything. Gas I'm sure will go back up, but we all saw it go down pretty dramatically last year too. The economy may be in a downturn but if people are spending $300 on an SKS rifle I don't think it's that bad. Politicians? In my opinion they've always sucked. I bet people bitched plenty about the founding fathers and every other era of government. Sometimes it takes a few years or even decades to see what was really going on. To me, the President doesn't have a whole lot of effect on what happens. He's just there to give speeches and make people feel better about life. The President is a symbol, really just a myth. He's actually pretty easy to ignore. My advice is to quit bitching, turn off the tv and the computer, work hard, save money, and don't worry about stuff you can't control.

I don't think the OP is trying to break those thread rules. I think he sincerely wants to know what we as Americans can do to break the cycle, to make others start to care enough to put an effort into their lives and their government to make a difference and bring back the ideals that we all hold dear.

Personally, I believe that you have to really start at the bottom and work your way up. To steal a political catch phrase, a real "grassroots" effort. Talk to people, talk to politicians, try to change the way your neighborhood thinks.....then your city, county, state.......I believe if enough people work for the good of their neighbors it will get noticed and things will start to change.......it may take 20 years, but it would be worth it wouldn't it? Now do we have the strength to do real WORK.

???What about executive order? This guy has the most liberal record in congress. Couple this with the ultra liberal ilk of Pelose and Reed and the majorities in their respective houses! What about the ability to ram the unread stimulus package through congress in record time.:koolaid: Scares the he!! out of me. H.Obama is the perfect symbol of what America is NOT.

JMHO, yours may differ. I'll stick to my guns but debate is welcome.

I share your frustration. The things we are suppose to do, vote, support the political party that most closely has the policies we believe in, doesn't seem to be working. As the hole we are in gets bigger, and the government takes over more. It really looks like all is lost.

The time is right for a 3rd party. There are several that could fill the bill but will never get enough support to do any good. The two major parties for the most part have the political system locked up. The Political Elite control everything and have brain washed enough people to stay in power. Both parties are guilty. If things get better, jobs, economy gets better, the status quo will remain. If it doesn't who knows what will happen.

-yes...Mr.O is just a puppet on the string, like Bush was and many before him, maybe not a Kennedy, but we all know how he ended up, right?...and there is a third party, that is the party of all mighty CEO`s and multibillion $$$ corporations who run on cold cash and pure greed...they can care or less about your rights or law`s, they get all the cash they want and they can spend it any way they want...they can start the wars or end the war`s...that is your third party, the one that runs the show and was running it for a long time...thay can care or less about your right to bare arms unless they make a profit if you do...wake up, we are just a working class and that`s it, we are here to make someone rich....

tea bags...

Tea bagging our elected leaders may make you feel a little better, but it will most definitely leave them with a bad taste in their mouths.

Read the book " Creature from jeckll island" youll see whats happening and it will explain alot. I dont want to get all religous, but its all in the book. We have been slowly herded into a socialist society for a long time now, why? Its easier to control the masses through socialism. The GOP dropped the ball by selling out to the same people who control the Global economy. Almost all politicians are agents for a master and will not do what they are elected to do. We have been sold out for homes in the caymans and swiss bank accounts. I equate it with the film the matrix, no i dont think a computer runs everything, but we as a nation and as individuals are asleep. We have nascar and Golf and movies and brad and angie and any number of things to distact us from the reality that we are enslaved. Our country is a facade of what it should be. Can we fix it.I dont think so. I just pray and trust to god that all will be as he wants it.

The "government" hasn't lost touch with America because the "government" is the people. The people have forgotten who really runs things. We are the employers, the politicians are our employees. It is the politicians who have lost touch with America.

Start issuing warnings of bad job performance to your employees. I call and write my Congressman and two U.S. Senators every day, sometimes several times a day. It is my duty to be up their butts and remind them who they answer to. In 2010 we will be issuing pink slips to a lot of our employees. I constantly remind my three employees that that is what will happen to them if they do not perform well. I suggest all of you do the same.

Not if you leave a few $$ on the nightstand. :)

I hate to quote a hippy bumper sticker around here but it makes perfect sense to me when interpreted and applied. "Think Globally, Act Locally". Rephrase that to say "Think Nationally, Act Locally". The dolts in DC aren't annointed overnight. Every one of them comes from some local or state level position. The ass-hats many people vote for do make it to Washington.

I take local elections just as seriously as national. One, because the local politicos can do far more damage in the short-term and two, they may just make it to the big leagues one day.

Your doing it wrong. :)

And wrong. The politicians are the government so you are disagreeing with yourself. And politicians aren't our employees, we may pick who gets the power for four years but the only main difference between the parties now is how they try to f*ck you over. It's like picking between being puked on, pissed on, or **** on; you don't want any of them but if one has to happen...

I don't disagree with you, but it's merely technicalities and semantics, so no point beating each other up seeing as we are on the same side. :D

You had me up to the last part. Horrible advice. That's exactly the **** you need to worry the most about. That's called being a victim.
