The importance of using quality ammo

I recently bought a Glock G40 MOS 10mm, and since it’s the MOS version I wanted to put a red dot on it. I went with the Holosun 507c since I’ve had good luck with them in the past.

Took it to the range and bought several boxes of what they had for sale, at roughly 60c/round it seemed like a good deal! Lo and behold there was a reason it was so cheap. No  matter the distance, shooting supported or offhand, I could not get a good enough group to get the dot zeroed. I went through something like 200 rounds and actually swapped the Holosun for one off of another pistol just in case that was the issue, before realizing it was probably an ammo issue. I took off the dot and went back to basics with the iron sights, got a new brand of ammo (the PMC in the pic below), ran a target out to 7 yards and shot 5 rounds of each ammo type.

I guess it wasn’t the dot that was the problem! At least I only have 400 rounds of this stuff left

Man what a difference. Must have been frustrating till you figured out it was the ammo.

You have no idea.  I would sometimes manage to get a decent group at one distance, adjusted the dot, stepped it back a few yards and hit in an entirely different part of the target.  I switched to a 9mm and could actually hit what I was aiming at so I just assumed I had a broken sight or gun or both, it took an embarrassingly long time to realize it was probably the easiest thing to fix

I had a similar issue with some ammo I purchased at a show some time ago. It was being sold as new, brand name stuff. Turned out to be reloads in a brand name box. I suspected it was reloaded as soon as I opened the box. Which is what I should have done at the time of purchase. Now I open the box whenever making a purchase from an individual.

I've seen "AMMO incorporated" discussed on another forum as being garbage. Big "do not buy" for me.

I also have seen their ads. I was also tempted. BUT...have good sources for known ammo at similar pricing. Like you, I prefer to use good products at the start.

I've only bought a few reman brands, mostly Freedom Munitions. Still have a bit of it left. Overall, it has been good. Have had 2 cases split in a 9mm carbine, and 2 duds, they appeared well made, but evidently bad primers. I guess that's not too bad out of 4000+ rounds that I bought from them. lol And I did get some from a fellow member in a trade deal as well. I like it, but the split cases have me relagating it to revolver only after the cases getting stuck in my carbine barrel.

I bought a fair amount of Freedom 9MM a few years ago and had no problems. Less than 4000 rounds though...

Not saying Freedom product is all bad, I still use what I have. But when one gives me problems that I can directly tie to the ammo...well, it's range use only.

I've never heard of Ammo Incorporated but when I shot 10mm, it was real hard to find good ammo in general.  Especially full powered stuff that wasn't watered down to .40 in a 10mm case.

I used to do a lot of load development for the rifles Brandon and I built at MTG and everything down to the primers can effect the rounds performance. Ammo can play a huge part in accuracy of a firearm.

This is a great truth especially for rifles...

Thank you for pointing this out.
