Anybody messing with it?

I’m thinking about trying to figure it out and how it could be useful. Mostly interested in its ability to transmit information and messaging over radio.

Going to start digging into it once I acquire an android phone to run the software on.

Low intelligence level here...this is a viewable map(s) and tracking capable download? Does it work alone, or require a network of users?

This is the civilian version of software used by troops to coordinate movement/location/a million other uses in the field.

For the civilian it offers the ability to know where folks on your team are, and the ability to share texts, location markers, etc (and a bunch of other uses) over the network. Useful examples are search and rescue, hunting, other outdoor recreation activities, airsoft/milsim, and all around LARPIng. One of the cool features is that you can download all your maps in advance, go out, and communicate with your team using your TAK devices over ham radio like computer modems used to use telephones.

It’s really cool stuff, with near endless possibilities, I’m just trying to dip my toes in it but may be way out of my depth. 😂😂

Thanks for a layman interpretation for me. I was thinking along those lines. So it does have real world civilian uses.

Yeah, it does. It isn’t the sole purview of overweight wannabe operator LARPers like myself. 😂

Well, I don't think I implied that. It would have to include myself as well. lol

Seriously, I knew just enough to get a coherent question together, but I think I can see where an educated and trained person would find this useful.

Sadly, I don't fall within those parameters.

My tin foil hat is starting to buzz.

Yeah, ditto.

I downloaded it, fired it up, wanted to own my phone (requested permission/access to... everything, at all times).

Nope.

Looks like a neat tool and cool idea/application of technology. I'm just horribly jaded and don't trust anybodythingwhere. Theres definitely something there, tho.

I wouldn’t, and won’t install it on anything other than a dedicated device.
