(Not a) Mass shooting in Knoxville!

Another shooting at Austin East HS, makes the 3rd, maybe 4th shooting related to this particular school.  One deceased, LEO treated at UTMC and is ok, no life threatening injuries to the LEO.  ATF is involved somehow as well.

One male juvenile dead, one school resource officer wounded.  Hardly a “mass shooting”.

Not trying to make light of a bad situation now that the facts are coming out and as there have now been five kids associated with Austin-East high school shot and killed this year.

Just reporting what the news was saying; not qualifying the shoot.

Oh, I know.  The Knoxville news was reporting a mass shooting earlier without waiting to get at least some semblance of basic facts verified.

It was a shooting at a school. The details don't really matter. Its the location that makes the news. Although still new, even the CBS Evening news did a small mention of it, but had no details. 💩

My guess its its just an argument type thing between two individuals. I'll also guess the wounded Officer just happened to be there when it happened.  The same type of thing that happens everyday in cities all over the country.

Maybe, maybe not.  Knoxville is not Memphis or Nashville.  We are not used to this kind of violence, especially when it is centered around one school.

East Knoxville has pretty much been " Little Chicago " for about the last year or so.  There is evidently gang war goin on that has its epicenter at Austin-East.  These kids have been killin each other n takin potshots at everybody else for several months. The real tragedy is that the neighbors, the PoPo  and the current " city mother " and " PoPo Czarinia " seem to be powerless and relatively unconcerned about it.  SIGH.

watchin leroy.

Reporting now that according to TBI, cops called re a kid with a gun, found in restroom. He wouldn't come out, cops went in, kid shot at cops, hitting one, they killed him.

I only saw a headline about "multiple people" shot?

The gang activity in that high school is shocking. The feuding and shootings are not uncommon. I’d wager this young man was on the hunt for a rival. Sad waste of young life. Glad the office wasn’t more critically injured

Man the Knoxville reddit comments are pure cancer. Folks are blaming guns, Governor Lee, Mayor Jacobs. Anyone but the shooter of course. Somehow the new law(which doesn't even start until July) is to blame for an underage child bringing a gun to school.

Yeah I hate people. It’s just like when “guns in bars” was passed. Drunk people have been having Wild West duels in the parking lots ever since, right?

It's Reddit.  That pretty much sums it up ...

TGO ought to flood the media websites and social media with criticism. Just saying.

I used to do that...

Try to present cogent arguments in the comments section of my local tee vee news website. Noticed others as well. Then low and behold, they turned commenting off on their sites. Funny aye?

Journalism is dead.

That whole community seems to have fallen into the abyss.  I wonder if Knox County intends to address the problems or take a nod from Cook County and just ignore it?  I can't imagine Jacobs would cop to that, but time will tell.

Didn't you hear, their plan is to throw a bunch of money at the problem. Surely that will work. 🙄

On a serious note, I'm not sure what they can and should do. It's not an easy fix.

The "snitch" mindset is what I've told a friend and coach at one of the Knoxville schools everytime this comes up. Nobody ever sees anything apparently. I know when I was in school everyone pretty much knew who was in a gang, what gang, and where they registered on the worthless meter. Since I still live in the same county I grew up in I can tell you at least 6 of those same people are behind bars doing long stretches for stupid crimes.
