For LEOSA Credential Holders: H.R. 1210: Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) Reform Act.

Have any current or retired LEOs heard about this?  There are several areas that just weren't properly thought out in the original LEOSA bill and some updates, which resulted in LEOS and Qualified retired LEOs not being able to legally carry in certain places under LEOSA. This bill  will fix many, but not all,  of those holes in the current LEOSA law.  Here's a synopsis of what it will do:

As a retired LEO, I really hope it passes.  Don't see why it wouldn't, except for the fact that LEOs are not politically popular right now...

I’ll ask. Why should a retired law enforcement officer be able to do something the rest of the citizens are forbidden?

The basic premise of the act is that LEOs and retired LEOs are subject to targeting by criminals they interacted with while performing their duties.

I've never worried about someone that I put in prison would come after me when they got out - particularly in another state. I think the REAL premise is that cops have carried their entire career and are uncomfortable when they stop carrying.

There may be some truth in that.

The answer is, they shouldn't.   But then again, active duty law enforcement shouldn't be able to carry anywhere that the rest of the citizenry can't either.
