Short barrel, mag extension, maybe a light, shell holder.

Instant tactical. Lots of other tacticool options.

Me, I'd keep yours intact as is for hunting and backup zombie eradication and just buy a $300 870 Express Synthetic or similar, voila!

Magic, I bought my 870 Express Synthetic for $295 back in the summer...from BendMeOverGanderMountain, no less!

Quick search first hits show $310 - 330 online, maybe crept up a bit, dunno.

yep, like said above, a tactical shotgun would need a black synthetic stock, preferrably a pistol grip, or speed-feed, or m4-style; side saddle shell holder; 18-22" barrel depending on the size of magazine tube extension; magazine tube extension; possibly some better hard sights, ghost ring or rifle sights; possibly mount a picatinny rail and add a red-dot or holographic sight; possibly add a sling; maybe even mount a quad-rail on the forend and then add vertical foregrip, light, laser, etc. that should get it classified as tactical.

1187s and short barrels are not very compatable unless the gas system is modified.

If you want a rail and a side saddle, Mesa Tactical makes a nice one that you can still use the iron sights with.
