Powder

I thought I had everything I needed. Then I bought a Garand. I’ve got some powder but would really like to replace it as I use it. I guess I just need to have patience.

I went to Gamaliel Shooter's supply today and almost no powder at all. At least about 2 weeks ago there was 7 or 8 different powders. Today maybe 3 pounds total. Nothing I could use. Sad.

You remember what they did have?

No I wish I could remember. I just didn't see anything that I could use. No .22lr ammo either. That was not a surprise.

I'm gonna try and look at Outdoor Junction on the way to work Tomorrow or Wednesday and see what they have.

Somebody told me they were closed a while back. Are they back open now?

Yeah, they had a fire. I called and was surprised I got an answer a few days ago. They said they was back open.

I was by SW in Chattanooga this past weekend, there was NO powder or primers on the display shelf, and only 5-10 boxes of bullets, one of which I bought for $12+tax (20 cal 32g Noslers).  I was surprised by the price more than the fact they actually had something I choot.  LOL

Greg what powder are you looking for? I may go shooting Friday and the range has some supplies at times.

I appreciate the offer, but some will show up sooner or later. Thanks!

You my friend are very optimistic. I wouldn't guarantee anyone they would see powder, primers for a few years if ever. I certainly hope you are correct.

"Ever" is a long time.  We've been through these before, each time lots of folks talk about how components may never be available again.  They always are.  We're only a few short months into the current shortage, give it a year or two and stuff will gradually be available as before.  In three years you'll see bargain prices once again, but there will still be many who won't take advantage of that and will suffer accordingly ...

That would be my guess as well. If there’s a market for it, it will be produced. I do wonder how much of this will be allowed to happen before existing companies see fit to expand, or a new company emerges.

If it's like the last several times, none of the companies will do major expansions, unless it was something already in the works.  The cyclical nature of these boom and bust periods makes building more or bigger factories and/or buying up a bunch more equipment a risky venture.  Typically, they just work through the shortages, then their existing plants slow down once things stabilize again ...

Looking at this situation from my side of the fence, I see the ammo mfgs. are wanting to make the ammo today and put it on the truck either today or first thing in the morning. They do not want to warehouse 1 case more than they can sell the next day. I understand a part of that, but do they ever look at the trending data, before an election the buyers get antsy and will purchase more than usual. That goes for completed ammo and reloading components. Now I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I think I would have started slowly building stockpiles of both the loaded ammo and the reloading components. But what do I know?? BTW I did.

I was in Cookeville about 3 weeks ago and stopped in Outdoor Junction and they had some powders in stock. I am good on powder so I did not look it over to see what they had. I went to the gun room but could not get in for all the people.

Well that is only a 50% increase over the last I bought at Outdoor junction. So $45 primers would be reasonable. The last primers I saw were at Outdoor junction, lpp's for $79.95.

Sportsman's warehouse in Murfreesboro had primers last weekend at normal prices.  I was able to get a 1k small pistol primers and my wife got a 1k small rifle primers and each was $29.

I looked on Murfreesboro Sportsman's warehouse site, and, wait for it...………. NOTHING! All out of all primers. Maybe their not selling online. We can 🙏  I guess.

@Quavodus

Yeah, Sportsmans doesn't seem to be updating their website.  Basically you have to go in person for when they open up to see if they have anything.  The employees don't know what they have until they show up for work.  Some days they have ammo and primers but most days there is nothing.

Speaking of price gouging....

$95 before shipping and hazmat fees for some CCI benchrest from Midway.
Even at that cost they were only in stock for a few moments before they were all sold.
