H.R.127 - Sabika Sheikh Firearm Licensing and Registration Act

Something that broad and far reaching will never pass.

However it does not help when yahoos like to flaunt their firearms, or threaten elected public officials, regardless of which party they represent. That only fuels the fire.

This one won’t pass, but then someone else will draft a less comprehensive one, or less restrictive one. And it probably won’t pass. But eventually, if idiots continue to push, and threaten, and scare folks who are afraid of guns, one will finally pass.

I hope you are right but the general consensus on this is that it has legs.

Too much, too soon. It'll never fly.

I hope we are not underestimating what these people are capable of.

This is the oddest part of a registration bilI I have ever read.

"IN GENERAL.—The Attorney General
shall establish and maintain a database of all
firearms registered pursuant to this subsection.
‘‘(B) ACCESS.—', all Federal, State,
and local law enforcement authorities, all
branches of the United States Armed Forces,
and all State and local governments, as defined
by the Bureau."IN GENERAL.—The Attorney General
shall establish and maintain a database of all
firearms registered pursuant to this subsection.
‘‘(B) ACCESS.—The Attorney General shall
make the contents of the database accessible to
all members of the public
, all Federal, State,
and local law enforcement authorities, all
branches of the United States Armed Forces,
and all State and local governments, as defined
by the Bureau."

Criminals will love that. Like a shopping list...

Yep that one got me to. The govt will never want to give public access to that database. This also makes it become a privacy issue, not just a gun registration issue. Also the part that every one has to have a psych evaluation.

There sometimes seems to be an abundance of complacency on this site.

If they find a way to stack the courts it’s over.  I’m sorry I do not share the optimism as some.

Complacency, no, not really, you have to concede the fact that these people are capable of anything, but one doesn't need to comply.  I suspect the amount of boating accidents will increase dramatically, or in my case:

The point of passing a law like this is to create non compliance.

(SMASH) "Looks like you've got a tail light out...."

"We've got to pass the law to see whats in it!"

If anyone suggests The Constitution something something I'm going to smack them....

This is a complete ban on guns. It takes 6 months to get a psychological evaluation now. Imagine everyone getting a gun signing up.  Of course insurance isn't going to pay for it, so how much does one or two psych evals costs?

I hope it doesn't pass. However, I don't feel like the previous argument saying "it will never" isn't quite as valid anymore. This was also said about Biden getting into office and Republicans losing control of the Senate. Both happened. Unless the minimum number of Democrats see the danger in this, it will have a high likelyhood of getting through.

Pretty much, no cosponsors, this has as much chance of passing as my big butt has at winning a marathon.

Marathon is easy, just get Biden's people to run it and record the times and there you go, a winner.
