Very glad you are all safe. But...

How in the heck did that older model vette hit so high on the liftgate of your Acadia? You'd think he had jumped a ramp to hit there! Is your axle broke or just the tire torn off?

Sorry, old habits die hard. Sold parts to repair shops for a long time, and saw a lot of strange hits. Always wondering how it happened.

Still can't see something like this and not mentally start to write a parts order. lol

Looking at it, I was trying to figure out the same thing.  I think the damage to the tailgate is from the hood of the corvette, when I looked at his car the hood was gone, never saw where it ended up.  Here is a better picture of the damage to the axle.

From my point of view, the vette nosed down from a panic braking and went under your bumper. The impact sheared the entire front clip of the vette off and that, as you say probably was the cause of the liftgate damage.

There's not a lot above the impact absorber/bumper on the late 80s model vette. Just enough structure to hang the lamp assemblies and the hood hinge supports. But enough mass to cause that liftgate damage.

I'm guessing not much of the front fenders and hood on the Corvette is intact. It probably shattered like safety glass.

I think that driver is exceedingly lucky to be alive and uninjured. Looks like the engine hitting your axle is what kept him from having you sitting on top of him.

Can't see the differential and axle structure on yours, but I hope the guy has good insurance. I'd say your Acadia may be a total.

That was a very hard hit. Again glad you are all ok.
