An officer went to the scene to assess it and called the bomb squad. While they were on their way, the explosion happened.

It will be interesting to find out what that Officer saw that made the bomb squad be called. I just figured it was propane tanks on the RV that blew.

That was my initial thought, due to operator error.

Best I can tell, no fatalities

I know this sounds like a stretch since I'm in  north Bedford county but I was out side when this happened and heard a explosion from the north.  It went on for at least five seconds. It is very quiet here at 6:30am here on Christmas morning so maybe that's what it was. I didn't think about it again until I saw it on the news and made the connection.

Saw someone else say it sounded like thunder so probably was what you heard.

Lots of damage, but thankfully no fatalities reported as of yet, just a few minor injuries.  They either sucked at their planning (timing wise), or it was meant to be just an attention getter. It’s also possible they were intending to set it off once the streets were crowded, but the early detection by law enforcement made them change plans.

Well… we all are merely speculating, as I’ve been watching the news and they don’t know anything either. But if this was intentional, they obviously weren’t trying to hurt people. The guys doing the news I was watching speculated they may have been trying to take out the AT&T building (not the batman building). Of course those guys are also saying it’s been confirmed this was intentional. I don’t think that’s been confirmed, but I don’t know that.

FBI was supposed to have a press conference, but they’ve pushed that back.

An RV in downtown Nashville is about as conspicuous a vehicle to use for a bomb delivery system as can be.  That and the timing given the location of downtown being empty on Christmas Day makes no sense to me.

Unless it was used solely as “I don’t want to kill people but I’m trying to get my message heard nationwide”. Then it makes perfect sense.

Or it didn't go off at the time it was intended for whatever reason.

There is  a recording of a warning then the blast. We felt the house shake, woke our daughter.

News 4 is reporting that what was suspicious about the RV was that it was announcing that it had a bomb and then started a countdown before it exploded.
