Yea, I have had to put down a few, two on a piece of property that was vacant for years next to my house.  When one got hit, and the local LEO had to call in and get permission to dispatch the deer, he had to shoot twice, I don't recall what the round was, but it was a shotgun and looked like some kind of small shot instead of slug or 00 buck.  So the next two times it happened I just used my Glock .40 to do it, faster and no permission needed.  

On Hwy 149, going to my hunting area, I have had to do it a few times, don't know what hit them but they were left alive, so had to pull over and go back to dispatch them.
