So I needed some gas rings for my AR. I tried Palmetto state Armory but no luck. I ended up at MidwayUSA. It has been a long time since I browsed that place.

So, 190$ later I have all kinds of doodads coming my way for my rifles. I got a couple of spring/pin kits for repair but some tacticool stuff like some miculekesque compensators and a couple of charging handles. They have some uppers in stock that seem priced reasonable. They may get some more of my money later this week.

I order from them frequently. My only complaint is their shipping. They use that sure post or whatever it's called (shipped UPS then turned over to USPS) and it delays arrival for sometimes two days here.

聽I did figure out though, if you include any ammo in your order (50 round box of .22 ) they will ship the whole thing UPS. Of course, that was when they had ammo !!

@xsubsailor LOL. I used to do the same thing. As a matter of fact I just received a package from them yesterday because I added a box of .32 S&W WC that happened to be in stock. It really is kinda hit or miss these days of course.

@broox Yes Sir, they usually have plenty of stuff to spend your money on! I needed a few more items in order to start casting and they were one of the few retailers that actually had the gear in stock.

I'm thankful, at this point, that we can still order anything gun related. Interesting times...

Shipping ( cost ), mostly has always been an issue. But I ordered a Caldwell chronograph from them Sat. Should be here this week.

Midsouth had the same for $50 more.

Shipping cost aside, they usually ship quick.

MidwayUSA shipping cost drives away some of my business. 聽Brownells would ship gas rings for 4.99 聽 Still expensive when it鈥檚 just gas rings but not so bad with respect to other sites or thirsty 12 mpg聽

I don't like that midway just keeps your card info on file. So every time I order something I have to go back in and delete my card info. I am not a fan of any site that does that.

Their normal shipping costs are high, but Midway has frequent "Free Shipping" periods and send email notifications of such.

I've done business with Midway for a long, long time. I keep several categorized lists on there and it's not unusual for Midway to notify me via email when "things you like are on sale".聽

Of course the Free Shipping usually has a $50.00聽floor. Somehow I find it only too easy聽to meet that floor. 馃槈

I don't disagree, but why not use something like privacy.com to set up single-use or vendor-specific cards that you populate with funds as needed?

For internal AR parts, I highly recommend White Label Armory. They are the direct to consumer arm of DLG Manufacturing who actually makes a lot of the parts used in other folks OEM guns.聽

Larry Potterfield has mastered the art of separating me from my money on many occasions. 聽

As for the shipping, they don't seem to be any higher than anyone else for UPS Ground. 聽They've tricked many a customer into thinking they are getting UPS Ground when they select UPS Basic, which is the Surepost xsubsailor mentioned above. 聽I almost always avoid their free shipping unless I just don't need it anytime soon. 聽The free shipping is often UPS Mail Innovations, which will get you your stuff in three days or 30 days. 聽

I used to order a lot from Brownells and Midway.聽 About 5-10 years ago, their selection went downhill and the shipping duration went up.聽聽 Before then, I could order something Monday and usually have it by Thursday.聽聽 Over the past 2 years I found myself ordering a lot less because even if they had it in stock (and Brownells was bad about this), it would take at least 10 days to arrive... and that was before the current panic state.

At some point in there, Midway also stopped giving discounts to C&R FFL holders as well, which didn't help.

That sounds like a good idea. I went to their web site, but I don鈥檛 see where they tell me what the fees are (without creating an account first)?

I鈥檝e had my card hacked 3 or 4 times over the last few years. I鈥檝e often wondered why the credit card companies don鈥檛 allow me to go into my account and generate a single use pay. They put a security number on your card, but all the online stuff want that number. Once it鈥檚 out there; it鈥檚 no longer secure, and they can do what they want.

Do most places accept that?

I've never had a problem with having a CC on file at midway and a few other places.聽 The security code is requested each time an order is placed for security reasons (you still have the card and can provide it) but this info is not accessed/viewed by Midway personnel or the CC personnel.聽 It's done all electronically with no hoomans involved.聽 After the CC being used is validated electronically, the order moves on to the "que" for processing.聽 聽Kinda like when you use your CC at Krogers or anyplace that takes CC.聽 The clerk does not have access to your CC in most places.聽聽

You can also download the issuing CC "app" to your phone, and get text messages notifying聽 you of charges at a $ limit you can set in the app.聽 It works as I use on several CC's

For those complaining about shipping, look into Brownell's Edge. 聽It's their version of prime. 聽It's half the cost of Amazon Prime (less actually) but just as good. 聽If you buy more than a few times a year, it will save you money!聽

More than once my shipment has been held up in Smyrna TN on the surepost. 聽As a matter聽fact I have something coming from them right now that is sitting in Smyrna. I cringe every time this happens. 聽Some things I get in two days. One item it took almost 2 weeks to get from Smyrna to Harriman.聽
