Why? Did you bring yours out of the bathroom?

Couldn't find it either. I would go with the "not looking good for us" so they took it down theory.

News is not to be unbiased anymore.

I'm going with this theory as well. Damned liberal media outlets:death:

What happens sometimes, is a webmaster can tell what page you came from to get to their page.

So it could have showed that several people were coming to their site from this one and they may have thought the results would be skewed.

Although I don't often remember to do it either, it is always better to copy and past a link into a new page when going to vote on a poll instead of clicking the link in the post.

83 percent for our side.

Last question on the poll talks about a restraining order. I was under the impression that if were under a restraining order it would knock you out of getting a permit?

I know an Order of Protection does, but not sure about a Restraing Order.

The trouble with the way the question is worded is, the HCP database woulndn't tell you if they had a gun, only a permit to carry.

Yeah, the poll on Newschannel5 was removed by 6pm.

They mentioned the poll on the 5pm broadcast and said to check in at 6 to get the results. I wasn't home at 6 but the last time I saw the results, it was at 74% approval for all 3 bills!

good....always helps out a little if the reps are watching the news. We just have to keep emailing and waiting at this point.

I voted on the WDEF poll too. I like their website a lot better than Newschannel.

WDEF lets you see past polls as well as a comment blog! +1 :usa:

Unlocked and unloaded. Tennessee gun owners want the ammo taken out of a searchable on-line database of handgun permit holders.

"It's not everybody's business," says Ammo Dump owner Hal Shaw, who says it angered him to learn he could be among the 189,000 Tennesseans listed. "I've got a lot of customers and people I teach class to that are very upset about this information being put out and printed for everybody to see."

State lawmaker Vince Dean says he learned of the database last night, but says permit information is public record, so its perfectly legal. "As you know under Tennessee state law, they are entitled to that information."

Gun owners fear making access so easy to acquire about who owns a gun on a particular street, could make them potentially easy targets for a burglar. Shaw says "your just publishing a list of who has guns and guns are a high commodity theft item right now."

We searched the database and found over 7,000 Hamilton County residents:

  • 3,230 - Chattanooga
  • 1,141 - Hixson
  • 1,047 - Soddy Daisy
  • 901 - Ooltewah
  • 587 - Harrison
  • 183 - East Ridge
  • 170 - Signal Mountain
  • 108 - Birchwood
  • 67 - Red Bank
  • 28 - Collegedale
  • 14 - Lookout Mountain

Dean says "after 27 years in law enforcement, the majority of criminals were not that industrious to find the information." Dean also says the information could work in reverse, scaring off criminals fearful of homeowners that might shoot back. "I just spoke to a young lady that was interested in it and she said, they really don't want to come to my house."

The database may not be online much longer. Lawmakers filed two pieces of legislation this week to make permit application information confidential, SB172 & SB1126.

The database appears incomplete. The state Department of Safety says it's issued 339,000 handgun carry permits. That's nearly twice the number listed in the database.
