Picked up my first XD

Picked up a LNIB XD45 last weekend so I guess that makes me XGlocksterD. It has a lot of impressive features, of course the grip safety, this one has the ambi thumb safety, it has the loaded chamber indicator, the cocking indicator, etc. It is large, only holster I have that I can get it in is a Galco OWB I have for a SIG. Little disappointed in that as I have a lot of holsters.

I have not had time to shoot it for groups but I did shoot it some off hand for groups when I function fired it. Good news, it grouped well at 20 yards off hand. Bad news, this thing would'nt feed a SWC if it's life depended on it...and mine might! It fed the JHP, LTC and hardball perfectly but the plated SWC's would almost turn backwards on the feed ramp. Darndest thing I have ever seen. I may try some heavier, longer types as these were the really short stubby Berry's 185 grainers.

Other than that I like it...it will never replace my smaller Glocks but it looks like it is a better choice as a shooter/house gun than a G21 as it has a lot more safety features, can shoot lead and definitely appears to be more accurate. The off hand groups were much better than I normally do with a gun of this type as I am a revolver shooter. I look forward to doing some serious shooting/testing as this is my first XD.

Yup...have read on XDtalk that SWCs and XDs are oil and water....I have 2 XD 9mm models...since I don't reload, I've never even SEEN a 9mm SWC :)

Welcome my son...we have Croation candy!

Love my XDs too. XD40 subcompact and an XD45 Service. The 40 is the EDC and the 45 the Lord of the Living Room as the home defender.

How are you doing going from only one real external safety mech to now 3? I am a fan of the grip safety, but the thumb safety would take some getting used to. Thoughts so far?

what is SWC?

I'm assuming semi-wadcutters, Nate

I have now! posted a thread over there last night and just got to read the replies. Did not know that about SWC's. Guess I'll load the rest of those LTC's I have. You don't see swc's in 9mm much but I do believe they are available. No matter, at least I can use lead though I am going to need some different molds when I crank the casting back up.

As to the thumb safety, I am going to have to ignore it or give up Glocks....the muscle memory is just not there, that is one of the reasons I stopped mixing Glocks and 1911's.

Heard a rumor today that Springfield is moving XD production from Croatia to here in TN in the near future. Something about future import issues. Would make a great gun even better. May even eliminate some of the parts issues they have had in the past. Glad you like the XD.

That would be great if SA moved the XD line to Tennessee. I have the 9mm subcompact and .45 4" compact XD's and like 'em both. They are fun to shoot, have been very reliable and I like the grip safety feature.
