So why is Obama not calling his address tonight a "State of the Union." I know the formal SOTU is not required by the Constitution, but it's a traditional name for the address given by the president. What's the deal?

It is not uncommon for the speeches of newly-elected Presidents to not be called SOTU addresses. They are usually for outlining his goals for the coming year under the new presidency.

Don't recall that being the case, but OK. Seemed odd to me.

These reporters are foaming at the mouth..."Obama has accomplished more in 30 days than any president before him."

WTF? Remind me again what exactly he has accomplished?

Zero is a much more accomplished liar than Slick Willy. I could not help but think what was really going thru his mind as he sneered at the camera.....like: you stupid peasants, you have no idea how much you're going to get screwed. LA Gov. Jindal looked and sounded good, but could have used a more forceful voice.

That is my understanding as well.

State of the Union Address

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The State of the Union is an annual address presented before a joint session of Congress and held in the House of Representatives chamber at the U.S. Capitol. The address not only reports on the condition of the nation but also allows the president to outline his legislative agenda and national priorities to Congress[1]. The report has occurred in January (except for the occasion of a new president's entrance into Office, whereupon he gives his first address in February) since 1934.

Sometimes, especially in recent years, newly inaugurated presidents have delivered speeches to joint sessions of Congress only weeks into their respective terms, but these are not officially considered State of the Union addresses. The address is also most frequently used to outline the president's legislative proposals for the upcoming year.

A random person out of the phone book would be better than Bush. Obama however is no better than Bush. For somebody that talks about the "failed policy of the past" Obama sure knows what he is talking about since that is exactly what he is using... including many of the failed policy issues from Bush.

A lot like the worst parts of Bush sure... but not better. Bush at least got a few things right while Obama gets it all wrong. The only positive is the GOP can not be blamed for it.

We lost 2008 the moment McLame stole the nomination with the help of the media and a broken primary system. Obama was not better, we just put the worst guy possible up for us.
