A little knife help

Recommended Posts

Because I can only recognize a knife 2 out of 3 times, I thought I would ask you guys about this knife. I bought this knife from a friend getting to old to enjoy his stuff and wanted to liquidate so his wife might not have to.

This is what he had me write down; "6 bar composite weld of 344 layers of steel hand forged. Fire blued steel. Handle is stabilized Madrone wood. Pommel and front guard are fossilized Amber"

What I know; the knife has a stamp of L.W. Thomsen on it.

Any help (value, rarity and etc) would be appreciated.

My pictures suck, I know.

Thanks David! That's more than I have found.

Maybe he did pass and that's why there is little info on him..I'd love to know more, that was a great write-up on the guy!

My pictures don't do it justice, it's beautiful.

Terry, I really can't tell you more than you've already been told here, but I can make a small comment.

My late brother-in-law was a collector of knives. The more exotic the better...with one caviat. It absolutely HAD to be one of 2 things. Made by someone he knew and respected, and not be a commercially produced model with 1000s+ made of each one.

I can tell you that he owned several Thomsen knives and they were among his favorites. Some years back, he bought and sold knives personally, and knew many of the "old guard" as he called them in the Knife Guilds. So his standards were very high. If he bought and kept something, it was special.

So I can say that you have a beautiful piece of what he would have considered worth owning and would have coveted it himself. And for what little it's worth...I think it's gorgeous too.
