Question for instructors

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hey everyone, recently I sent away and later received my state certification as a handgun instructor. I know I have to be somehow affiliated with a school to teach the course/have range time, which is where my question comes in.

For those of you teaching the handgun safety course as a state certified instructor, how did you go about finding a range to affiliate yourself with?

Thanks!

You will need to talk to a range owner, or have your own range.  Either way, the range and classroom have to be inspected/approved by the state.

Yea sir, absolutely. I’m in the Memphis area so I have a few range options, I was mainly asking how others went about approaching/finding ranges that needed instructors.

thanks!

I don't know if they still do it, but at one time MSSA did allow private instructors to use their ranges for the shooting portion of the class. They have classrooms available, but I have no idea as to their use. You might check with them to see what the requirements may be.

That’s a great idea, thank you!

Same boat, took the NRA Basic pistol instructor course but can’t afford a range, don’t live out in the county where you can shoot and the ranges I know of already have in house instructors.

Did you ever figure anything out?

No, unfortunately. I recently affiliated myself with Focused Fire Training to teach a few courses for them and I'm hoping when they break into the enhanced carry world they will help facilitate range use.
