Seeking advice on where to find automobiles for sale by owner. Is this less common than in the past? I'm not having much luck...

Facebook Marketplace is where a lot of it has gone to now. Craigslist is still popular though.

GoLSN is another. It’s mostly East TN and some middle TN.

What are you looking for ? Maybe I can help sift through some of the BS and point you toward the authentic ones. CL and other like classifieds are more of a hassle if you aren't a veteran of those sites. Even Eflea is a good hunting place you just have to know how to play the game.

Keep in mind the used vehicle market right now is madness. Inventory is slim and prices are high. I'm watching some of the guys on Tacoma World state that Carvana is offering them more than they paid 3 years ago(new) for their 2017-2018. Yes, you read that right. They are getting offers to sell their trucks for more than they paid new.

Well, I would argue that Tacomas don’t really count. They hold their value better than any other vehicle on the road. Probably hold their value better than gold if you really crunched the numbers.

But you are right. Used car market is crazy right now.

Yeah they are definitely an outlier but even they don't normally sell for MORE used than new. Buy yes, it was an extreme example.

It really depends on what @hughd is looking for.

Several comments of F150 owners receiving offers from Carvana, etc., for more than or equal to their purchase price for 2017 on up.

Supply and demand

New car dealers had to buy used inventory at premium prices to fill their lots.

Coronavirus slowed the new car supply chain.

Used trucks in general are outrageous, even with 150-200k

Can you wait?

Best time to buy a car is when you don't need one.

I always used Craigslist, but its been a couple of years since I last did. Look for a lot of good pictures, keep it local, go armed and suspicious and never meet at night.

I edited the thread title.  Every time I saw it, I had to double-check because it looked like a wanted ad posted outside of the Trading Post.

Yes.  It was that or in my state of sheer exhaustion, changing it to read something really tacky and funny.  😁

Thanks for the replies, I'll check them out. I'm in no hurry to buy. Looking for a late model Camry or CR-V.

We bought my wife a 2019 CRV last year. It's a great car and has done everything expected. We were initially going to buy used but we we're only going to be able to save two to $3,000 buying slightly used over new. Add to that that Honda has very good financing options if you have good credit, as in under 2%. And it was pretty much a no-brainer to buy new.

The CRV and the Camry are kind of two separate animals. It's my opinion that the CRV is much more versatile and I like the fact that ours has all-wheel drive. That said I'm a Toyota guy.

Exactly. A used car a couple a couple years old costs nearly the same as a new car these days. If you're at the point of making payments anyway, may as well get a new one.
