Higher-End Knives

A friend of mine is looking for a nice (probably folding) knife as a gift for his father in law. He's thinking about a Benchmade, and I'm wondering if there are other options that he might consider which don't have quite that amount of "brand name tax".

Autos really aren't an option in this case, and it likely won't be shipped anywhere for maintenance/ sharpening.

Any brand suggestions you all have would be appreciated!

what is the intended use?  I hear FIL and I immediately jump to a traditional style knife (think buck 110) but see Benchmade and that is typically a more "modern" look

Are we talking an heirloom or a nicer daily use blade?

A Spyderco PM2 gets my vote in the latter category.

In the nicer, but reasonable pocket knife space, I recently picked up a Lionsteel Best man’s knife - mostly because of my love of all things M390 and sheepsfoot:

You might check out some of Great Eastern Cutlery’s stuff if the more traditional folder is your thing.

Take a look at some of the knives from Zero Tolerance.     They are nice quality and not too expensive.    A good number of them are spring assist flippers, if that makes any difference to you.    (Typically these are not considered auto knives in most places, YMMV)

Send me a message, if the recipient lives in Tennessee and he goes through me I promise I can take care of him

I don’t have any suggestions on high end knives at lower prices, but I’m getting all kind of emails about Labor Day sales going on this weekend.
